It would be best to assume there are no new cars.

FYI:
I have noticed that Chrome browser quite annoyingly considers Updater download from MEGA as possible malware. Which it is not! Just verified the updater file (again) and it is good.

How to recover the download:

1 - after the downloading phase, go through "Show all downloads"

2 - click on "Recover malicious file" and then for the "Recover Malware" popup click on the "Keep anyway".

3 - you should now have the Updater where you wanted it to be.

After being away from SIM racing for about 3 years (no, I was not in jail)
I began again to have fun with GTR2, rFactor and Power & Glory (waiting for my pre-order of Project Cars May 7th release aswell).
When I saw P&G V3.1 I thought 'WOW, the developers made it even better?'.
Nedless to say that V3.1 was downloaded right away, installed, and drolling like a dumb, tested. Checked the V3.1 install - OK. Clicked on update and profile update buttons on P&G launcher - OK. Checked if the new cars were there - OK. GTR Config made - OK.
My ingame profile was how it was before - OK. Everything nice. Lets run a race in a new Mini Works.
NOOOOOOOO. No matter what track and what car I chose, tracks load untill 70-80% and then CTD.
Really don't know what to do. Any help would be welcome.
OS Windows 7 32bits. Logitech G27 wheel

Thanks in advance,
Paulo

Hi Paulo, and welcome back. I'm sorry to hear the update didn't work exactly as planned.

#1
Hmm let's start with debug.logging this time. From the Launcher Tools menu you'll find menu line: "Enable Start with debug mode for PnG". Click it *once*. If you sneak peek the Tools menu again you'll see the line is now marked meaning it is on. It will be active for only one run.

Now press Launcher's Start and try to run a track, come back to the Launcher, Tools menu, and select "view Debug mode text log..". It should open notepad with the (hopefully) correct debug log file. You can paste part(s) of it here (size limits for pasting text..) or you can save it to some place where you can easily find it, zip it and attach it here in your replies.

#2
Where there any error popups while you run the updater v3.1? I presume you already had a "clean(ish)" v3.0 installed before that v3.1 update.. right? Did you have addon cars with your v3.0?

Hi aSa, thank you for your fast reply.

I had no popus errors during installation. Yes I have a clean install with V3.0 and never add cars to the V3.0.

Later I will try to do what you sugested.

This is the text log I've got.
Once again, thank you for the help.

BTW, should I uninstall V3.1 from the P&G file and reinstall it?

error:
vehgfx.cpp 2631: Unable to read USERDATA\LOG\vehgen.scn: Error opening MAS file PORSCHE_906_MASK.GTR

This should be in the individual car folders. It looks like your trying to load a car without this in it's folder, check each 906 car folder for this file...

looks like your missing a tire file also......

Paulo:
Something has gone wrong with the updater. Maybe it didn't finish gracefully after all, because you shouldn't have "PORSCHE 906\66005" car anymore. It should have been converted to a 6605P model.. The remnants of the 66005 folder suggests that the conversion process didn't work as planned.

You could try uninstalling the Update and then rerunning it. Make sure you have some work space in your hard drive (C: drive and the PnG drive if not C: drive too).

After rerunning the Updater there's another tool in the Launcher's Tools menu called Verifier (file checker). It is not as good as it should be but it is able to pin point some problems. If the resulting log text is too cryptic (it is..), post the results here. Please verify that the selected PnG version is v3.1 in Verifier before running it..

I hope the failed Updater run didn't ruin your v3.0 base install.. :/ That would surely ruin my day too.

Well, after uninstall and reinstall P&G V3.1, I had run the file checker and this is what shows.

Uninstalled second time, have got one error about an ALFA file which it was 6605 and not 660P or G (not sure if it was like this, I didn't copy the error).

P&G V3.0 is running fine. Maybe it's better to uninstall V3.0 aswell and reinstall all the stuff.
If so, can I get some help for what files I must install please? Many years ago and I don't remember all the procedures.

Thanks for the help,
Cheers

Again..?? Maybe something is blocking my "FileUnifier" (responsible for car renames). Maybe you should try running the v3.1 updater with temporarily disabled virus scanner ..?? Or some other software that watches after file changes?

v3.1 Updater also has this dark background install log scrolling while the process advances. You could try copying the text from it in the end before closing the Updater. Just click once over the dark text area and use your right mouse button for a popup menu which allows copying the text to your clipboard. Then you can paste it to Notepad or somewhere, or direcly here.

DucFreak has compiled this v3.0 install helper: here.

And also in our GTLW site (go to Downloads, v3.0part comes after v3.1 update). Download links are here too.

Well, for the v3.0 install you will need 4 files:
Quote:
PnGv3.0_installer.exe
PnGv3.0.001
PnGv3.0.002
PnGv3.0.003
Place them all in one folder. Please don't try unpacking them. But you may want to check for download errors before you start installing. Do that with this: "FileMD5_test_RC.exe" (download). Big files corrupt easily. Unzip the exe file in to the same folder as the v3.0 installer files are and run it from there.

Then run the v3.0 installer. Do not start with "Run as Administrator" trick. Just start normally.

For the install options I recommend selecting #1. That way your GTR2 source will stay untouched.

If you give the new PnGv3.0 install a new destination path it won't ruin your older install.

Hi aSa,

Uninstalled again P&G V3.1.
Ran "FileMD5_test_RC.exe" to
PnGv3.0_installer.exe
PnGv3.0.001
PnGv3.0.002
PnGv3.0.003
All files without errors.

Disabled the anti-virus and reinstalled P&G V3.1.
The very same issue continue.

This is a message I get when V3.1 finish the installation.

Hope is fading.

P.S.: Can't open www.gtlw.co.uk. site in any computer, home or work.
'Firefox can't find the server'
Trying to go through I.E. I get a message that GTLW is a 'danger phishing website'

Bugger, is Santa Claus mad with me or something?

That error is the result of previous tries, I guess. The folder 6755G already exists and therefore the folder rename fails.

So you have good v3.0 installer files.. Please try to create a new PnGv3.0 install with them. Use a new destination folder like ....\PnG31 or something else, your pick. Then use the v3.1 updater and update that new install. Then there should not be any leftovers ruining your day.

The site www.gtlw.co.uk opens ok in my Chrome atm. But I have heard reports that the server where our site is located also has (had?) some non-preferable stuff too. Something like that. I don't know the specifics. But www.gtlw.co.uk is clean though.

I checked with Santa and he had nothing to do with these problems (hello from Finland, the land of Santa Claus Yes we all have direct connections with Santa ). Sometimes things just doesn't work right because of some unexpected stuff.

The gtlw domain simply redirects to another site hosted by my ISP. This may be why you are getting the message but there is nothing malicious involved.

You can go direct to the site using this link

Thank you David, that link works perfectly.

Now the news about my P&G V3.1. It's working!

I have installed a new clean GTR2 inside my other disck (D: ), but working at my C: desktop shortcut. Anyway, installed V3.0 and all went fine, then installed V3.1 and no popups error windows this time.
With all my fingers crossed, tested with a few cars (OMG that Zakspeed Escort) without any issues.
Just one thing, when I click on the shortcut of P&G3.1 the 'Updater' doesn't show (installed at D: disck but running at C: disk), but the game runs well with my new profile.

All in all, huge hug and thank you for GTL Workshop team.
Fantastic job, the only downside is my social life, that might be a bit compromised now.

Of course I want to thank you aswell aSa, for your time helping me and for your tips. Very kind.

You're welcome, Paulo.

Well you got some good news there.. Excellent. And thank you David for popping in and clearing that out. I just couldn't remember anymore what the real problem was like.

But that Launcher shortcut problem.. Please check where Launcher icon's properties are pointing to. Target should be pointing to your new install, something like: "D:\PnG3\PnG3.exe" or what ever your path was in D: drive. PnG3.exe is the Launcher. Also check that Start in path is pointing to that folder too (like: "D:\PnG3").

If the above paths are correctly defined, but still no Launcher, then check that the install folder does actually contain the "PnG3.exe" file. If not .. well .. do I still have a bug in my updater script?? I have to then check that by myself .

Let me know again how it goes again, please. And then we continue again, if needed.

cheers.. aSa C[_]

Default PnGv3.1_updater.exe malware ???

Hello everybody,

i'm trying to download PnGv3.1_updater.exe from many servers, but my AVAST always blocks it, stating it has found a Win32:Malware-gen !

Do you perhaps know if everything is ok and it is only a false-positive or maybe is it really infected ???

Many thanks for now

Downloaded and verified the GamersCrib.com file. It's ok.

Default phantom car ??

Just installed P&G updated and everything seems to work fine, but the following:

I choosed an AlfaRomeo GTAM 2000 and started the week-end in Monza (no chance to have the 60's Monza without chicanes ??).
While running I saw an almost transparent car similar to mine in my mirror, and after a while it passed me through ... litterally through like if I was a ghost !
Any suggestions ?

Thank you very much, and i'd like to say it's been quite amazing to start PnG and earing the soundtrack of "Le Mans" the movie !! Really amazing !

Well. a transparent car + going through you do sound like the ghost car function in TimeTrials. Are you absolutely sure you were doing Race Weekend instead of some TimeTrial laps..? But I have to admin it's been a while since my last Race Weekend.. I usually have my fun with either Practise sessions or with Time Trials.

The ghost car runs your fastest lap, so you can see if you are ahead or behind your fastest lap in your current lap.

The ghost car is "playing back" your best lap so far, so you can compete with yourself. You can also save those best laps for later work, or give them to your friends as a challenge.

I tried even making some challenge threads for anybody as an experiment, starting with "a lesser quality" TimeTrial lap to get people started posting their laps and then going on from there in a competitive manner. Quite fun actually. And educating as I wasn't usually the winning participant.

The saved TimeTrial laps can be found from TimeTrial folder. It will be located in either "<Documents>\GTR2\TimeTrial\" or under your "<PnG folder>\TimeTrial\" (depending on your OS and its configurations). Those laps will have a .GTT extension.

Thanks to both David and aSa...

Maybe you could help me understanding why under certain circumstances (that i've not yet understood which are) the throttle command (i use a Trust wheel force feedback ff380) starts working in an on-off mode... when this happens, the only thing I can do to fix it is to exit the game and restart it...

I'm sorry but I have very little experience with wheel systems. I've had two versions: an old and cheap, black and yellow game port version of Logitech wheel (no ffb) and the current G25 which has been working fluently all this time (without the Profiler software, I don't have any use for that). The yellow cheap wheel I wore down twice quite fast (NFS5 was the thing for me back then) .. The G25 is still good.

If restarting the game fixes the problem, I would say the problem is with the wheel's drivers. Googling around will result in a lot of driver problems with Trust wheel. They don't seem to update them much.

You could also try to create a new player profile for testing purposes. With that you could try those different "wheel emulation modes" the GTR2 engine offers, if there's any quick fix to be found. But I wouldn't expect any miracles.

Sometimes GTR2 engine will just corrupt a player profile so that it won't work as expected. So trying with a new profile could be a good thing to do. You can always return to your current profile, so it's not destructive test.

You could also ask if GTR2 users have any Trust wheels in use and if they have had problems with it.

Starting afresh after around 5 years of no simracing, I want to try P&G.
However so far I have not got it running right. It starts up OK into the menus but as soon as I have selected a car and track and then proceed to load it, the lot crashed to desktop.
I did have an error message but it mentioned that the error would be no problem...
Running the launcher I get: #ERR Downloading a new update file
Launcher then starts OK. I can choose to start and P&G starts. Then when loading any track it crashes.
I may have to try downloading the parts again in the hope one is corrupted...
The GTR2 install is clean and fresh.
Could it be that I installed it incorrectly? First I clicked on the installer V3.0, chose option 1. Around this install stage is when the above first mentioned error occurred. I then ran the updater.
I get the feeling I did something wrong.

Edit : Running Win7
Edit 2: Reading the thread Problems during or after intallation. Shall check back in should the suggestions there not resolve the problem

Easy part first:
Quote:
#ERR Downloading a new update file..
PnG v3.0 had its automatic update checks enabled, but there were no servers to talk with. PnGv3.1 version (build32) has a switch in its menus that allows to enable or disable this feature. This error is annoying but it won't screw up things in PnG.

Quote:
Could it be that I installed it incorrectly?
Sounds pretty normal way to install.

There are some tools to help verifying the installation. First there is a tool to verify the the downloaded v3.0 install files ("FileMD5_test_RC.exe"). You can download the zip from here (a Dropbox link). To run it you put the exe file among the install files and run it from there and it will check their checksums.

Second: there is a utility in Launcher's Tools menu called Verifier (a file checker). If you have many PnGs please check it is testing the correct path. The resulting log file is rather hard to understand but I can check it for you if you need help with it. Usually "critical errors" are the ones to watch for.

Third: it's getting more complicated.. but you could try to make a new profile in PnG and see if that will help. If it does, then you main profile has some invalid data which needs to be solved if you want to use it again.

hmm.. btw did you remember to run the DirectX9 "update" that Win7 (also) needs to run GTR2/PnG? That is easily forgotten.

Hi Guys, thanks for this great mod..i have to ask a question about using the wheel as i have a G25, the ffb feels fine but are we suppose feel some jolts some times when cornering if you understand what i mean, rumble strips feel fine its just these little jolts i get, is that classed as clipping? and is it suppose to feel smooth?

Logitech profiler i have effects strength @ 65 - 900 rotation everything else off and ingame after hitting the player patch button i also set ingame ffb to 65.

Thanks again for this great mod

It is very difficult to describe force feedback isn't it?

The bumps on the track affect grip as you are cornering and I think this is what you are feeling. I have a G25 (though mine is set to 100% both in the profiler and in the game), and this is what I'm feeling when cornering. Certainly when I drive non-Simbin tracks without bumps (such as those converted from GPL), the force-feedback is smooth.

Thanks David for your reply, so i guess they are suppose to be there like a jitter effect when you break as such..the track i test on is Spa so it does have it bumps on corners on the down hill section, plus i always strive for a smooth ffb to reduce clipping thats why i set my ffb under 100 and the wheel isnt to heavy feels just right for me lol.

While you are correct that lowering the feedback strength either in game or in the control panel will reduce the chance of clipping, clipping will give you smoother force feedback rather than "spikey" force feedback. Clipping is where the game asks for more force feedback than your wheel can provide - your wheel "clips" the peaks and you do not feel the full range of the force feedback the game is trying to provide you with.

Thank you very much for the help. If only I had found the Problems thread before opening my cake hole here. In any case, I created a new profile and all is well.
Now I see that the cars available is not merely an expansion of the GTL cars as I see no TVR. No worries, great mod, even if I have to suffer with a keyboard as my wheels still don't work.

Glad you sorted it out.

Yes ,the focus is firmly on the cars as they were in the 60s and 70s. While the TVR Griffith 400 does feature in modern historic racing like that covered in GTL, it didn't feature in International events back in the 60s, hence its omission from P&G.

Unless downloading limits are an issue, I think it would be easier just to do a fresh full install of 3.2.

If limits are an issue I'll see if I can find the old links.

Is there any way to get the 3.1 update now that 3.2 is released? I never updated to 3.1 (I thought I did, but says I haven't when I try to install 3.2) and it says I need to have 3.1 first. Checked DrivingItalia & GTLW and they just link to 3.2.
