Since the user folder is placed under 'my documents' in Windows XP I just lost a great set of replays since I had to do a full recovery of my system.
Does anybody know how to change the place of the user folder to another partition ? I use Win XP Pro SP3 Any help is greatly appreciated ! Thanks ! |

The best way to do this, especially for steam users, is by use of NTFS junctions. You can put any game folder in other partitions, then use NTFS junctions to make the system believe the folders are physically where they originally were.

I had the same problem with losing a bunch of skins I made (about 40 or so) I usually save WIP and finished versions in my personal folder on my external but for some reason I can't find them, now after reformatting I lost all of them :'(
So I know how you feel, now I make sure to either BACK UP EVERYTHING or remember to keep copies of my skins in my folder for every car I do

Glad I could help. NTFS junctions work fine with Windows XP, they're very simple to create. For XP, iirc, you need to download linkd from MS, probably still available from Resource Kit (dunno the version). But as you already have an alternative, super!

I got Link Shell Extension to work great so that the mirrored folder kept all the files even if the files and folders in the source folder was deleted which is what happens when you recover the system partition. However after some time I noticed that it stopped working for no reason and I kept messing with it and uninstalled and reinstalled it a couple of times with no success. I finally gave up and started to look for alternative by googling around Then I found someting called Mirrorfolder that really does the job. It wasn't free but it sure was worth the US $39.00. Great features and highly recommended http://www.techsoftpl.com Thanks to your guiding I finally got what I really needed. ![]() Thanks again ! |

He "should"?
Why? Anyway, the problem with "cloud syncing" is that uploading 7 to 12 gigabytes may take quite a while, often people don't have time to lose and seek a very fast solution to these kinds of problems. His solutions were OK. |

Aslo a good idea is to move your 'My Documents' system folder to another drive using its properties. Your Race 07 folder is still in My Documents this way and because the game referes to My Documents as well it is working fine.
A path to User Folder for Race 07 based games is in *.PLR file. If you change your account name or My Documents settings location you have to update it as well as far as I'm concerned. It worked perfectly fine for me after changing systems and a whole computer. |

Oh crap. Sorry I got it mixed up a little.
What you put in PLR file is the path to Motec software to analize telemetry logs. What you have to change after moving the game (steam) folder is ..\ My Documents\SimBin\RACE 07\GameInstallDir.ini The only line there needs to be updated. Otherwise although you would have your Race 07 user folder in the right place the game would not be using it. In fact it would find it but since the path in this file is different (old) from the actual game path the game will create a new Race 07 (2) folder. Or something like that. It was a little bit tricky when I moved my Steam folder on a different partition ;p |

No matter what partition I install on, -the GameInstallDir.ini file and all folders are installed in C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\My Documents\SimBin\RACE 07 I haven't tried yet to moving all these files and folders to another partition "after" I've installed Race07 to see if Race07 writes all new files (Replays, Car setups etc etc ) to the new location. I will try and see if that fixes my issue as well ! |

The thing is to MOVE your My Documents folder to the other partition. Once done it should work without any modifications unless you changed your Steam location.
Then you would have to modify the path in GameInstallDir.ini accordingly. |
