Default LFS is it any good?

I was on youtube watching some videos of this racing simulator called LFS and I looked it up and I was thinking of buying it online. I want your guys's opinion on LFS. Is it any good? is it realistic and can you mod it?

Why not just try the demo.

Mods, visuals are secondary consideration you have to like how it drives first.

Get the demo drive it you will soon know .....................

I will not try to explain it others can do better.

If you read the included pdf ( i think) with the demo you will see there is
a specific way of calibrating pedals and wheel in LFS.
Forget how you do it in all other sims
Follow LFS pdf, it is no problem.

Also auto clutch, using a button as manual is a bit different to set up in some regard ....I forgot what lol but once again its not too dificult to figure out.

The OSD menu is very helpful as you can stay incar while adjusting it.

LFS is alright

My only major gripe with it is the sound engine is really really bad. I think SCGT may have sounded better way back in 1999.

Somewhat yes. There are a lot of sites with skins and textures you can add which can improve the cars considerably.

I tend to find that the rear end is too loose on all the cars, if it was that loose in real life a lot more people would be crashing. It's great considering that it's made by a very small group of people but the AI don't think about you and it's very hard to overtake in most cars, which means that you get quite a lot of bumping going on by the cars are so skittish that that causes people to crash. I also found online racing to be a pain for that reason cos you just bump a guy and next thing you know you're getting whacked by the "stewards" for bad driving.

I still fire it up from time to time; mostly to keep S2 updates current.

(2 Year thread bump...)
