Very nice update, thanks for all the continued hard work. Is it just me, or has the ffb had a makeover too?

Yes.
After discussing and testing this, we made some corrections for v3.1 when you apply the Player patch (the green button in the PG Launcher).

You'll notice corrected settings for "FFB Effects Level" and "Steer Ratio Speed", among the other changes we had already done in previous version(s).

Now I'm scratching my head.

Ran the update the day it was released and PnG launched without any problerms.
Went looking for the PnGv3 folder on the C: drive next day and there isn't one.

When I click on the computer's Start button there's a tab for PnG launcher and by hitting the start button when the window comes up the game runs. That's no bother but what do I do when I want to load new tracks or fiddle with the ai values?
If there's no folder where do I put the tracks?

As I said scratching my head here

No worries, there's one way to get to that PnG main folder if it's somehow MIA (follow my steps).

OK, so you mention that when you click on the computer's Start button there's a tab for PnG launcher.

...right mouse click on that tab for PnG Launcher, and select "Properties".

A window will then pop-up, where there's a "Shortcut" area (it'll open in this area).

In there, you'll see there's a line "Start in" - that's the path for your PnG main folder.

If you just want to go straight to the PnG main folder, simply click in "Open File Location". That's it!

Here's a screen just to ilustrate:

As I'm about to move my P&G installation over on my Win7 machine, I need to ask if this new installer has made it into the download installation files? Or do I just install and update?

Just passing by to thank everyone involved in this masterpiece!

To give just a little bit back, I would like to make a donation. But where is that %& button hidden?
If I can't donate to gtlw.co.uk, where would you prefer me to go?

Time to put the old racing chair back together. Haven't raced in a couple of years now...

Hi Luc,

I found the PnGv3 folder hidden in a track folder in one of my rFactor mod installs, but if I try to copy it as a stand alone folder back to the C: drive it asks whether I want to overwrite the existing folder which just leaves it where it is.

Is there a way to restore the folder to its correct location?

If I try to put the path in to Start/Launch PnG/Properties as per you post I get a message saying the folder is not valid. Make sure the folder exists and the path is correct
Still scratching my head and wondering how the heck this could happen.
Cheers,
Nev

Yeah, that ilustration was just meant to be that, nothing else.
It is NOT a reference for the path it should have, it was just an example (that "D:\Games\PnGv31" directory path is how I have it here in my computer, not yours).

Now, I'm not sure I understood correctly, but you say you have a working P&G v3.1 installation hidden in a track folder in one of your rFactor mod installs, is that it?

If that's the case, then try the following:

  1. Rename that P&G v3.1 main installation folder, the one that you have hidden in a track folder in one of your rFactor mod installs, to something like "PnG v3x"

  2. Right mouse click that "PnG v3x" folder, and select cut (not copy), then go to the location where you would have wanted it in the first place (C: drive, etc) and paste it there.

The idea here is to move your working v3.1 installation to somewhere you prefer.

  3. Once the moving of folders and files is over (should be quick), enter that main installation folder ("PnG v3x"), and look for the file "PnG3.exe".

Right mouse click on it, and select "Send to.... desktop".
You'll see then that a PnG3.exe shortcut is created in your desktop (it's the P&G Launcher), from which you can run the game now.

  4. The Start/Launch PnG shortcut won't work now because you moved the folder that it looks for.
You can manually edit the directory paths in it if you wish so (see my previous post where the shortcut was mentioned).

  5. If all this works without problems, then maybe that other older P&G installation is not necessary anymore, so you may wish to uninstall that one (or not, that's up to you).
.

Hi Luc,

Thanks as always I really appreciate the time and trouble you take to help out.

As you were posting I was fiddling - I copied the track with the PnGv3 install to a remote drive, deleted the track from the rF install [didn't like it anyway] then copied the PnGv3 install only from rF track on the remote drive and pasted it to C: on the main computer and everything seems to work fine.

Phew,
Cheers,
Nev

Thanks for the P&G v3.1 update !
Wow such dedication !
A side thing... I can't seem to keep the GT40 on the road.
I don't know if it is a v3.1 thing or not.
Can someone please post a gt40 setup here (a regular race balanced setup) to test into v3.1 ?
Thanks, and great work !

There were no physics changes in 3.1 to the GT40 - just a cosmetic change to the name of a tyre on the 69 Gulf GT40.

Is there a particular GT40 you are having problems with?

There weren't any changes to the GT40 physics.

There are three GT40s in P&G - the MkI (289cu), the MKII (427cu) and the '69 GULF cars.
If your problem is with the MkII, it's understandable, as it is a high-speed car (think Le Mans) and can sometimes feel like a plain old truck if compared to nimbler opponents.
The '69 GULF's are the best of the bunch, fastest all around and easier to drive. Still, in that aspect, it is no Porsche 911RSR or BMW CSL.

EDIT: didn't notice David's reply (sorry!)

OK...so it is not particular to 3.1, then.
Yes it was the gt40 MkII. I lose traction way too easily, at even low speeds. Does that happen to you all? The others were a bit better (like you say) but still slow because of poor handling - having to slow way down to make turns, also. I'm not that good at making setups. Might you have some for any of these gt40s? Oh, and- yes - the 911s and BMW CSLs are real sweethearts in comparison. Still...a gt40 should be able to keep up with the 911 and BMW in a mid-length to long-length track and I'm not able to come close to doing that. If that's the way it is then- fine- I'm not complaining. I'm just trying to find out if it is possible to make some adjustments at setup to make the player's gt40 competitive.
Hey- thanks for the replies, guys.

For what it is worth, here is my Ford GT MKII set-up for Virtua Le Mans http://www.mediafire.com/?r5469c3u0c4atax The car works a lot better on big tracks with tall gear ratios.

Yes- the longer tracks are where this car can stretch its legs so I'm looking forward to trying out your setup.

Put it in png3/UserData/(YourName)/Settings/ and a copy into each track that you want.

I have a problem with the Launcher in V3.1, I have a shortcut on desktop to P&G.exe which I have been using to start the game, but if I go into the P&G file location and click on PnG3.exe the Launcher appears on desktop but nothing happens when I click on Player (for the enhanced FFB) and the game doesn't start at all.
1. Is it something i have done?
2. Will I lose I lose anything like recently added cars etc if I reinstall the 3.1 patch.
Appreciate any help.

The Player button just patches the player profiles (FFB settings and such). It does not automatically start the actual game. To the right of the Player button is the Start key which is used to start the game.

I can't comment on the second question right now.. (not at home now). This might also depend on how the addon cars have been done: are they overwriting original models? If not (=pure stand alone cars), I could think that their survival rate would be bearable but I can't guarantee that. I never had the need to do that by myself.

cheers.. aSa C[_]

I've installed P&G for the first time today and it's just unbelievable. It installed without any hassle or problems and once I clicked that green 'player' button on the Launcher my G27 started working just perfectly. Exactly how I'd want it. It's magic ! I haven't done anything else since and that was 12 hours ago
So much content and such quality. Amazing job by all involved.

Default Missing Shelby Mustang Sedans

Hi, since I have updated to P&G3.1, I can't find two Shelby Mustang Sedans. They were similar to the Shelby Fastback cars, but with an even more realistic handling. There were one car with less power and more weight and another car with more power/less weight, I loved these cars! But where are this Mustangs in PG3.1? Please help!

The Shelby Mustang GT350 was homologated as a Shelby Mustang. Although the Trans-Am Mustangs were prepared by Shelby and run by the Shelby team, they were homologated as Ford Mustangs. These cars are now included with the rest of the Trans-Am Ford Mustangs.

My apologies for not including this in the change-log.

Ahh-fantastic! I love these Mustangs. Super soft suspension. Much Power. Almost no braking power. The chassis rolls in every corner, lots of oversteer and very little traction at the exit. Real US-car feeling and so much fun!

I tend to like these cars too, funny how heavy handling or any particular characteristic(like the engine placement on a Porsche, technical weakness or not) works in sims. It sort of gives a better impression of those days, that is why I like PnG. You don't deal with modern suspensions, tires, roll cages, it detracts from the cars original character. Also why I've become an admirer of the old cars, working around their weaknesses to an advantage.

Thats the point. Old cars have their character. Character means, there is something far off the avarage. Modern cars lack of character, because they are all more or less avarage. There are no really weaknesses on modern cars, there is nothing special. New Mustang has unindependend suspension and 4-pot avarage turbo engine. Is it a real Mustang? A 911 without the noise of the large cooling fan. A sportscar that makes only noise by pressing the sport button. Ferrari without an open shifting gate. You can't have the pleasure of change the gear by yourself, no control of the car with clutch/gas padel. The interieur in most of todays cars looks almost the same. Some black plastic and a few plastic parts silver sprayed should looking like metal. Imagine you are sitting in a very expensive sportscar powerd by a V10 from Lamborghini. But the cockpit looks the same like every other from x millions of Audis 1.9 tdi 90ps...
Driving Lemans or old Hockenheim in one of this Mustangs. You have to brake 250 meters in front of the chicanes and watching on the speedo while the needle slowly is going down. Will I get the chicane?

Well I dont know what you changed, but you could have named this PnG4.0 The FFB, always great, is now simply -- the best.

Not only do you have tire grip FFB, chassis dynamics FFB is outstanding!
The whole car feels real. A+

Thank you very much for developping and sharing P&G, I wished I had discovered this SIM sooner.
It is outstanding on all aspect, and particularely in one, the racing is accurate and fun.
I started with P&G 3.1, so I guess that makes me spoiled!
You have a new Fan!

Default Late to the party, but oh boy!

I finally took the time yesterday to do a clean GTR2 install, then ran the P&G 3.0 and 3.1 update executables and tried a half dozen of these great powersliders from yesteryears on the modern Spa.

Thrilled with the physics, I dragged/dropped ~50 of my favorite add-on circuits from my regular GTR2 folder and spent the rest of the evening (until 3 AM) with a big grin on my face!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

It seems silly now, but I actually resisted trying P&G because I was afraid it might "spoil" my enjoyment of any other GTR2 mod. I'll still be racing the 79 F1 cars, the Porsche Fabcars, and lots of the GTR2 originals, but now I'll be spending lots of time lovin life with P&G.

BTW, the presentation of this mod (can one still use GUI?) is outstanding, from the cool menus to the reduced size of the HUD elements. And the MUSIC... I actually delayed loading a race several times just to get to the end of one of those great songs! Thanks for including some of Michel Legrand's great soundtrack for McQueen's Le Mans.

GREAT WORK from one end to the other!

Version 3 was installed successfully in all it's magnificence.

However upon running 3.1 update, as the data is being unpacked at about 60-70% I get the pop up error shown below and the update ends. When I load P&G3.exe the welcome screen is showing 3 as the version and there is no v3.1 on the home screen.

extract: error writing to file
c:\Users\Laptop\AppData\Local\Temp\nsrE655.tmp\UAC .dll

Any ideas pretty please?

Sounds that the updater didn't finish.

UAC.DLL is part of the installer. My guess is that you have a virus scanner just deciding that that dll is a harmfull thing and blocks access to it. That happens .. and it's annoying .

You could try disabling the online scanning (=run time) function for the period of time needed running the PnGv3.1 Updater. If you're only running the installer the risks are quite low.

Or if you know how, make an exception for that file (without path, so that it won't be scanned/blocked again).

Worked a treat. Thank you for your help. I am amazed at how good this mod is and I haven't even had a chance to connect the wheel yet (once my wife and kids are in bed tonight). I have a 5 year old lap top (4gb Dell Inspiron N5010) and am blown away by how well it copes with the game/mod. Even on a 62 car race at Monza with full graphics and every option to the max it is playable (a little frame rate slowdown but nothing major). I can't believe I've missed out on this for so long.

Thanks again.

Hi mens,

I just finished installing Power & Glory 3.1 and and I think it's fantastic... but, how must I do to simulate online with other virtual pilots?

Please, can anyone tell me the right way?

Thanks in advance
