Tyre and physic upgrade of the GT40 and the 906 are really great, they feel natural. The GT40 is less vicious than before. A frustrating car in GTL, now it feel like it should .

Thank you to all those who made this mod possible.The amount of work that obviously went into it is mind boggling. Once I got the upgrade downloaded, everything went smoothly. My first download would not work at all, and I have no idea why. My second try was from Mega, and it worked perfectly. As of now, I've had 4 short races at various period tracks, The cars handle beautifully, and the ai seem well behaved..nice to race without being rammed !

That is the correct diagnosis!

It is just a quick registry check and the purpose of that is that ppl wouldn't accidentally try to update with too big steps (like from 3.0 to 3.2). When that registry info is missing, the installer can't be sure about the version it is trying to update.

The installer stops when unable to open config.ini.
The file is not present in that directory, i do not why.
My GTR2 is working and playable.

Any suggestions?

So no CONFIG.INI in Documents, eh? Sounds like you have been using GTR2 only with Admin rights (=elevated rights). Do you happen to run GTR2 from the Steam Launcher ? Only?

Several options here with different endings. Lovely. But which to pick?

I presume my guess above is right (always so optimistic ), and you don't want to change what you have been used to, for reason or another.

So lets try this:

Start the installer exe with "Run as Administrator" option. The Installer will complain about that (if it was intended or not) but just continue. Now the installer will behave like in an old XP install and should find the config.ini from "the old place" (GTR2 game folder).

The problem with this is that now the PnG will be also installed "for XP system layout" and needs Admin rights to find those few files. You could modify the "Launch P&G" shortcut on your desktop so that in its Shortcut properties, under Advanced button, the "Run as administrator" checkbox is selected on.
** Oops. Second thought about the desktop icon. If you don't have it visible, just create one. **

Or you could try adding the PnG3.exe to your Steam and let it start the Launcher with admin rights.

If you can't make some of this happen, don't understand my essay here, or need other help, please ask. I'm still sick but getting slowly better. But thinking straight is another thing.

You rock, guys! Since the begining you have been done a great job for us, GTL lovers. With P&G we find the real pleasure to drive all those amazing 60s and 70s cars.

Those are backups of default files, if you've no plans to uninstall P&G you can safely remove them.

The lines with a "-- Note!" line below them are usually OK. The note line is there to give you an explanation why that file has been modified from the original. The GTR2.EXE and SPECIALTEC.FX files are OK.

STEX.GTR and GTR2TEXTOPTIONS.GTR has been changed by something. Have you added cars to your PnG? Or something to menus, garage views or something like that?

EULA.TXT change is weird. What/who needs to edit this file?? What version of GTR2 you have? CD? DVD? Steam? Some freebie DVD with a magazine? (Or maybe just some hard drive corruption... I hope not)

my hard-drive works fantastic and it's 100% good! I didn't add cars to my PnG but maybe added High-res Sky textures or something like that but I don't remember for sure. I use CD-version of GTR2.

STEX.GTR and GTR2TEXTOPTIONS.GTR are these files so important? does it depend only graphics or it is more critical?

To be honest I don't remember 100% sure if online servers were picky about STEX.GTR. I would guess: not, but please if somebody can verify how it really is. I have played so little with servers.

I decided to spend the day driving all the vehicles in this mod. What a fantastic piece of work which I expect will all but render my other mods/sims irrelevant. Only open items I still have are how to get tachometer in bonnet view and how to see hood with some vehicles which disappeared with change to 50 FOV. My understanding is that cam must be tweaked for vehicle you are driving?

i am very big fan of historic and '60s - '70s racing, so i feel very lucky and happy where sims and mods like gt legends and Power Glory still alive and active on development...

We are working on it

As well as bug fixes, we have been working on the graphics and physics of the Ferrari 275 GTB/C. The GT version of the Cortina missed out on the graphics update the Lotus version received and this will be corrected for 3.3. It is hoped to revamp the IROC 911 physics and bring the cockpit up to the standards of the other 911s. Finally it is hoped to include a car new to P&G - details to follow. No release date plans at the moment.

Fired up P&G last night for the first time in a while. Crikey, it's good!

Iron wolf, have a look at the weather generator mod by ArtOfDrifting. With a little practice you can create minute-by-minute weather conditions. Great little mod, works well and doesn't cause online mismatches.

It works especially well with P&G as a lot of the cars have all weather tyres. It adds an extra challenge as conditions drift from dry, to light, then heavy rain or vice versa.

Thanks, this looks like what I need! I liked the unpredictability added by this mod - http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=23004 , but IIRC P&G uses its own launcher.

Perhaps this reads also one or the other former P&G Painter/Modder.

I think it is a pity that there are so few new skins for the super mod. I find the P&G Mod almost even better and more real than GT Legends.

Also, it would be nice if what the eventual P&G Ver. 3.3 would have been released.

The templates would of come from GTL, you may just need to mix the body parts around to suit PnG .

Sorry Philipp, cant help with good templates for the cars, i search myself for this, to optimized the specular-textures, more other models, the p&G Cars a look nice and have a very low polygony-model for 2017, i think for 2010 also .

Here i will give the greatest respect for the modders, because this project - this product have a very high level.
And of course Ducfreak make more than a fantastic "Sound-Job" for example a video, not in good "eye-catch-quality (eye-catch - there are modern dx11 Software to buy)"

This give a good feeling of the immersion. I have till today my doubts, that modern Software have the same level of immersion, after the Graphics-Hype will decrease in the brain , hope to understand my catastrophical english.

Then I still have no "real" template. I can unfortunately only make very simple skins and the only for private use.
This is already too cumbersome for me if there are no own layers as .psd file.

Yes, Philipp, we remember that you've asked for that, countless times before (for years now).
But in parts:

First, the missing templates for some of the P&G cars.
Unfortunately, for some of the cars like the various versions of the Porsche 911 and BMW CSL that we have in P&G, there have been none templates, and none are predicted.
It's just something we'll have to live with.
Unless propper templates are done (if ever, which is highly unlikely), one has to be creative to have some sort of base template. Like Pistoncup suggests above so well, copying the missing parts in the GTL template from an original PnG skin, is a basic -if not perfect- solution, to get some sort of base template for such cars.

Second, regarding the release of P&G v3.3.
I've been out of the loop, so personally I don't know what is the state of the 3.3 patch, or when its release will happen. What I know is that there has been work done, on and off at periods, for plenty corrections/fixes, and that there was even a plan to include a small surprise.

I have 1/2 completed the 911 2.4l Porsche template . Just got the difficult tail section to complete . All I can really do is hand edit them in Photoshop, copy paste from skin to template and then use the eraser to make the PnG parts fit.

I have no clue in how to make one properly . I assume some sort of 3d program to load individual cars would be needed.

There are plenty of standard Porsche skins anyway .

Would be super, we would then released templates would be released.

I write down how I imagine my own team:
Porsche 911 2.5 ST (vehicle as well as "72025") but,
I had on this vehicle very gladly the complete front bumper of the car "73059" (the 3D work (conversion of the front bumper) I myself could make)
The skin itself would be very simple: a beautiful "old white" in combination with a light blue lacquered front hood. and the corresponding "number plates". My team would be finished.

It's been a while since I've visited the forum and are really pleased that P&G still has legs and is continuing to evolve.

I am still amazed at how good it is. I simply love it and is by far the most raced.

This is a total newby question, and maybe very laughable for some here, but I'll ask anyway.

Is it possible that this mod would, or could "look" better, and be anywhere near the quality of visual delight that is currently on offer in current sims like AC, PC2 etc?

Thank you for your support, but being based on the oldish GTR2 engine, there's not much more to be done, I'm sorry (AFAIK, not being a graphics dude).

A slight improvement would be using more polygons for the car models, but that would kill the bigger grids pretty much. And that wouldn't change any track or atmospheric details.

Adding to what aSa already said, there is very little one can do.
Even worse if you come from AC and PCars and only now coming to P&G/GTR2, as this game foundations are well over a decade old. While it has aged well, it certainly looks old compared to them.

Notice that P&G already includes a number of changes over GTR2's original base files, which includes a few graphics enhancements, such as different lightning settings for the original GTR2 tracks, different textures for sun flares, fire and particles (all different kinds of smokes) and higher detail settings for the car LODs.

You can, however, try different things on your own, such as 3rd parties shader collection tools like GemFX, SweetFX, Reshade, ENBs (etc), and different textures for skies, tracks, and so on.
Of course, it's stuff that the user must experiment by his/her self, i.e, download and install separately, and see if it works as improvement (and sometimes it doesn't).

In regards to shader collection tools, I found that ENB can be at times very harsh on resources and stutter inducing, more or less depending on settings (obviously). I also found that Reshade (no matter the version) breaks the AA in most of the DX9 games I have installed, regardless of Nvidia or AMD graphics cards. So I use GEMFX/SweetFX for DX9 game titles. For GTR2 (and P&G), I've been using this package, to be exact. It can be, however, somewhat of an acquired taste, and it was made on ATI/AMD graphics cards, which means that Nvidia graphics cards (especially if with newer drivers) may show issues with a blurry image. I'm yet in the process of updating it to improve colors, and fix the mentioned blurr issue with some Nvidia graphics, as well as some "bleeding" issues with bloom sometimes noticed at night.

In regards to the texture updates for the skies, Hudson hi res Sky Textures are a "must have" (IMHO).
In regards to the texture updates for the original GTR2 tracks, it's hard to get them in a single pack. There was a popular one by Culmone67, but that went offline and disappeared for some unknown reason.
I use a compilation based on modified textures by various authors such as myself and Culmone. It's really old (probably a decade old) but if you're interested, drop me a PM so I can forward you a link.

Thank you for the clarity aSa and Ducfreak, no pun intended.
It is a shame but it does confirm one thing. P&G may well have been ahead of its time.

I have not played any modern Sims, only viewed on YouTube etc, and they do look very impressive, but I have noted that many forum members comment that they tend to always come back to GTR2/P&G due to handling and generally the feel of the game.
That indicates a lot.

pls feel free to join www.festbierbude.de , we love the P&G-MOD and try to keep it alive with new content and weekly Online races on Tuesday evening...
But we would like to have more racers in our weekly grid!
