Question Suspicious Hot Laps

Some of the "best" times in the hot laps seem suspiciously low to me. What's to keep someone from submitting an AI lap as their own?

Well, a racer will be smooth with the gas, while the AI will step full for a mili-secund and step of the gas, it's like they don't know much about pressure on throttle

I don't know but do you think anybody in their right mind would think about cheating?

Yeah but I do that same thing sometimes, but usually I'll step on it through the turn.

Nothing really but a lot of the guys are driving on novice or semi-pro. I was reading some posts by lemann224 (had a chat with him to seems like a switched on guy!) and he says he uses ABS because a lot of others use the driving aids. It's just one of those things dude. As for using AI with the ability and aggression ramped up who knows.....I don't know if you can tell. Maybe Karlos could shed some light on it?

Unfortunately Slick there are cheats out there. I knew of a guy who set up a Battlefield 2142 website and he started dishing out his benevolent all knowing advice......Only to get caught by Punkbuster using a cheat. It was a cheat that showed other players with day glow colours so he could locate them. Punkbuster even took a screen shot of it Was funny tho, we all went onto the forums on his website giving him shit about it and all the posts were deleted and we all got banned!! :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Naw m8, not like that, just like kissing the throttle just a bit, but very repeatedly fast

Yeah, I get it. I need to go online now and wipe the living hell out of the racers. I can finally beat the fast drivers.

It would be obvious in the replay, and i've not seen a lap like that yet.

Okay -- that's what I was curious about. Thanks.

Has anyone tried tapping the throttle the way the AI do through turns? It is absolutely impossible to get that much instant response from the throttle, and it is one of the things that disappoints me about GTR2, it makes the AI lap times unrealistic in the sense that the AI have an edge that human players don't. I do love this game but there are some major improvements to be made.

Well, I use auto shift and clutch since I don't have a clutch pedal. I also use abs since my "real life" car has it. I wish there was a feedback mechanism for the brake pedal though, since even with abs I sometimes have to pump the brakes to keep them from locking up.

Funny story on the website guy though!

i find following an ai car is the best way to learn quick lline around the track, i used to be towards the back of the grid but since i follow an ai car for a few laps i pick up their line, works a treat. have improved on their line though, cos some corners, if you have the nerve, you can floor it through them. Enjoying the game alot. Who in their right mind though would post an AI's lap as their own? i'd never be able to do that.

Actually the AI seem to use the brake a lot - i.e. they seem to use a tap of the brake when many humans use a mild lift. Pretty easy to tell an AI driven car by looking at the brakes through a sweeper - they flash on and off rapidly.

There are guys out there who race - and beat - the AI at 120% full sim mode. Look at the times from the simchallenge series (an alien series anyone can join, but not anyone would qualify for). Those times are way faster than any AI time.

I sometimes tap the brakes entering a turn to plant the nose (shift weight onto the front wheels) to get a turn-in advantage. I've tried left-foot braking a few times with mixed results. (I lock up the wheels too often at this point.) I'm getting much better at throttle-steering through sweepers though (another thing I learned at the track and apply to GTR2.)
