I'm using Photoshop 6 as well. I doubt whether it would be possible, but to me all my cars look like they're metallic.
(in the car dealer)I think it would depend on how the game represents colours, but I'm just guessing here. |

Well you can try making a new layer above the base color & make it light-grey with a hint of blue, then burn it on & lower the opacity. Not sure if that's what you meant or not, but I have done this in the past & it worked great.

try painting the mask/specular texture different colors in different spots
