Default Finland SS1 - Revised by Roger

This is a very much a BETA track. Work in progress, is uploaded due to the file size preventing it hitting the forum for testing. It has a few errors - I don't need telling!

Finland SS1, but not as we know it Jim. Width & length scaled @ 80%, so it is narrower and shorter. But it is mirrored from the start and also mirroed/copied - you then drive the original track reversed and mirrored.

Length will be approx. 160% of the original, so approx. 7-8km. Enjoy

This track is very nice and long! I like long stages and I didn't realise during the run that this is modded Fin 1st stage

I did my 1st run with Triumph TR3A 4:57.21

Narrow roads makes racing even more exciting

Great job Roger!

WUAH!! VERY nice track. I like it very much.
Also the heli-cam in the replay is nice

Swiss 1 would be also nice for this kind of mod - narrow and downhill

Great job there! Would be fantastic to see even longer ones, with several tracks joined together...

Wounderful to see what a narrow road is doing to the sence of speed too

Great work Roger.
The stage being narrowed make it feel much more realistic.

Anyone notice that by changing the x & y scale only ANY elevation change/bump is more pronounced? I guess that would make Switz SS1 VERY steep.

this stage is great... I was using the TireTeams physics and my 300hp awd saab.... without the stage notes it felt like you were speeding your daily driver through the back roads. The stage is wonderful unless you leave the road (youll get stuck on a tree and reset into space). This makes for a more realistic experience cause you are forced to keep it on the road or you will end up dead... as in real life.

Brilliant job, well done Roger

The narrow roads are more realistic. Amazing the difference a 20% reduction makes.

I too tried threatening cameras with a horrible & painful death - to no avail

I have no heli-cam I do have a target camera locatd high above the track and it pans with the car.

BUT - You can do a Heli-Cam in the Camera.txt for the car cameras

As you know, if there is not a track camera to hand the replay picks up a random car camera. So, make one of those overhead and looking at the car - instant Heli-Cam

Thanks for this phantasic work. This reflects much more the character of the finish gravel roads than the highwaylike roads of the default stage.
And damned, I didn't know, that a spectator can be massive as a rock! Crashed my Alpine completely by hitting one of those curios people ! And even the yellow 3d-grass now is like a beton-wall!
Ah, don't take that serious, I was just joking. Of course I know it is a beta and some things will be improved. Great work at all and I really hope, one day this will be a great addition to the realmod!

I'm working on the spectators! I have made them as collision objects, but then they don't face the camera. So, I am now making an invisible collision box around them, so that they look right. That means if you hit one, you will biff the car - trouble is the spectator does not go flying . I think this is the best compromise as visually it is best and you still have to thread through spectators.

He he

The checkpoints were one of the bugs.

I have fixed that, also the mirrored and flashing sponsors signs. Pace Notes are nearly done.

The re-set sets you back on track from some locations (but not from all - I can't fix that), also the rest may not be very close to where you crash either

A few new camera angles and it's not far off release.

Nice to hear that - can't await it. But what's about the deadly 3d-grass and spectators, that kill your car when hitting?

Cheers,

I'm a bit baffled by the grass. Any ideas which setting gets the effect? Maybe I will look into that again, although I have not concerned myself too much - what are you doing on the grass anyway?

Spectators are a development, but you still have to watch out for them

I like the deadly grass. In real life you can't go and short cut through every grassy area at top speed and not expect it to feel like the main road. There is usually lots of hidden rocks, holes, ditches and other stuff that will instantly and unexpectedly make you crash.

Same thing for snow banks in Sweden. In real like you can't short cut through deep snow, unless the surface underneath is road like, and the snow is extremely dry and powdery.

I noticed this destructive effect when spinning out into this yellow field which outside is modeled like 3d-grass. In the default stage there is something like a small ditch and worse you do a role, but in the narrowed stage it was like hitting a beton wall. I generally noticed a heavy increase of damage, when hitting anything of the tracksideobjects. Ok, have to say, that I've set a lower damagelevel for all of my cars (0.4; 6.0). But this wasn't a problem at the default tracks - only a little more realistic. But in the overworked every small touch ends up in a completely damaged car, sometimes even sticking in the hitted object.

Greetings,
Ralph

Default Roger, Roger, Roger...

What can I say?

Thank you very much indeed. I'd love it if all the stages were this long and narrow (or REALLY long like real stages).

This stage is GREAT. In the Amazon it took me five goes to get to the end.

Woo hoo!

There WILL be more This is so much easier than building from scratch - the actual effort versus the gain in tracks is very worthwhile.

I really like the stage

Most RT stages would be better if they were scaled down to 80% of the original - width of the road is much more real and one can really feel the speed.

I wonder if it could be possible to make a mod that disables the reset effect once and for all... In real rally your car sure as hell doesn't "teleport" from the ditch to the road

IMHO the roads of original stages could be more unforgiving if your line goes too wide - keeping that in mind, the bugs of this stage really don't bother me

I must admit that I dont really like that killergrass... havent you guys ever taken a corner a bit too fast and spinned out? One most annoying was that wery tight right->I pulled the handbrake and right after that slammed the brakes->the car stopped but tha rear wheels were on da grass->5secs of revving up on 2nd, and then reset.(RWD car, of course) Not funny . Other that that: AWESOME, WE WANT MORE, WE WANT MORE :woohoo:
Keep up the good work, and pleez, make some, even just redicilously low, traction to the grass. Just that we could get off there and back to the road
