Default Elwood Wins Ugliest Dog 2007

Elwood, a two-year-old Chinese Crested and Chihuahua mix, has been crowned the world's ugliest dog, a distinction that delighted the mutt's owners.

Elwood, dark coloured and hairless - save for a mohawk-like puff of white fur on his head - is often referred to as Yoda or ET, for his resemblance to those famous science fiction characters.

"I think he's the cutest thing that ever lived," said Elwood's owner, Karen Quigley, a resident of Sewell, New Jersey.

Quigley brought Elwood out to compete for the second year at the annual ugly dog contest at the Marin-Sonoma County Fair today. Elwood placed second last year.

Most of the competing canines were also Chinese Crested, a breed that features a mohawk, bug eyes and a long, wagging tongue.

Quigley said she rescued Elwood two years ago. "The breeder was going to euthanise him because she thought he was too ugly to sell," said Quigley.

AMEN !@! lol :p

"So ha ha, now Elwood's all over the internet and people love him and adore him."

Beyond the regal title of ugliest dog, Elwood also earned a $US1000 ($1200) reward for his owner.

Wow, that is weird and sick, kind of disrespectful to the dog, and people are too greedy, so this is what they do. It is desperate as far as I'm concerned. Still interesting though.

Well you see, I say sick because they enter these dogs and animals in to get money, that is why I think it is sick, I always say it wrong when a person does something for money, that is why I'm going to try to change my ways, and become a humane person.

WIKI

Quote:
Though possibly associated with China since the 13th century, some believe the Hairless mutation originated in Africa, and others believe it may be a cross of the Chihuahua and Mexican Hairless Dog, which it resembles. It is sometimes said that this breed (among others, such as the Rhodesian Ridgeback) belongs to a different species from most dogs, namely Canis africanus; but it is not firmly established either that such a species exists or that the Chinese Crested originated in Africa. It is also possible that this dog originated from two breeds of dogs, one coming from Africa, one from China. It is now believed that the dog has no correlation or genetic relation to the Mexican Hairless dog. It is more closely related to the Basenji. Recent DNA has established that the dog is of African origin and shares genes with the Basenji. The Peruvian or Mexican hairless has no connection to the Chinese crested.[citation needed]

Thats a lot of MABEES

Not necessarily, most animal lovers love their pets regardless, and want to show them off. And some people have a sense of humour and like to have a bit of fun. Money may be an incentive for some people, but not all.

Of course your entitiled to your opinion, we are just having a long distance conversation here. Remember if it wasn't for that pet owner, Elwood would be dead.

So there are some advantages to pet ownership.

I live with two Miniature Schnauzers, I love them as much as my own children, but I don't agree with having caged birds, that to me is cruel.

Yes true and I commend that person for saving the dog, just that, owning a living thing just seems barbaric to me. I care for the planet and humans ruling in such a fashion is sometimes disdainful.

Whats barbaric to one is well ............

In china they kill millions of Dogs a year to eat

I have watched them hang up the niciest animals with wire by the throats the fear in their eyes and bleed them to death alive.

Here we kill Horses to feed dogs

Go Figure

Hey Sun my Son has a yellow Budgie. Her name is Tweety Bird. She is tonnes of fun.We let her out of her cage everyday for hours, basically just at night is when she's caged.I let her fly for a few weeks then I clip her wings so she doesn't get outside, so about every 5 weeks she doesn't fly.Only for her protection. They make amazing pets. Also very loving type of animal. We also have a rabbit, its a floppy eared type,it too is loving. Also have an African Albino Clawed Frog.Lives like a goldfish.Very fast sucker.Next on the list is a dog.
