Default Setting exact number of laps for races

It's a known fact that using GTR2 tracks in GT Legends requires the removal of the "RaceScaled = 180" and "RaceTimeScaled = 180" statements from the .gdb file, otherwise short races can often finish a lap earlier than they should do.

My question is......do I need to remove these same statements in GTR2 ? I have noticed that the race length selection screen seems to stop me from selecting certain numbers of laps, and this is what used to happen in GT Legends when I suffered from the above problem.

So, do I need to remove these statements in GTR2 (I only ever compete in single races, and have no interest whatsoever in that championship stuff), or is there another way to select the EXACT number of laps that I require ?

In GTR2 you pick the percentage of a full length race, not the exact number of laps. You don't want to remove those entries from a GTR2 track.

So, you're saying that I can't select the exact number of laps that I want to race ? What an amazing oversight by SimBin :confused:

Welcome to the world of GT racing where races are run by time not by the number of laps

Well If your dead set on racing a set number of laps, open up the tracks GDB file and set the race length to what you want to run (RaceLaps = XX)and then set the race to 100% length when you start up the game and your all set.

I have no idea what you are all talking about, I've never had a problem selecting the amount of laps I want to run. :confused:

In the advance menu can't you choose between displaying race distance in time or laps?

I imagine it depends which you have selected. The default is time so by default you pick from 0 to 100% of 3 hours.

If you pick laps I imagine it will let you pick from 1 to however many laps would be possible in 3 hours.

I have Race Distance set to LAPS, so that isn't a solution.

Another dumb solution, but a solution none-the-less:

You could make a championship off just one race, and in there state
RaceLaps = n

Saves editing trk files, but does mean you have copy and edit a champ gdb. Of course you still don't get a nice slider saying 1 --> 1000 laps.

I'm not that thrilled about how the number of laps have been implemented either. It appears to me that the slider only acts on the numlaps contained within the trk file. Is that right N2LO?

Actually the slider is a percentage of laps set in the tracks .GDB file.

Thanks for putting me right there, I'm implementing reverse grid races at the moment and all these file extensions are getting muddled in my head. In anycase, it is a pity that the scaling is done by info within the track gdb, rather than on info within the championship gdb, which would appear to make a lot more sense.

In effect this means that if you are customising a championship you either need all your tracks to have sensible (similar) race distances for the series you are running (and each track only has one preset race distance) which you can then scale by % at the start of the official championship OR you have to preset the number of laps / race time within the championship gdb, in which case you can't use the scaling function. At least those are the options as I see them.

Case in point: GT racing at Donnington = 3 hours. Touring Car race at Donnington = about 30 mins. You can only have one of these race lengths set in the track file.

The problem I have is the slider is way too sensitive. I was trying to set a race for 2 hours at Sebring the other day and could not get it to stop right at 2 hours. I would get it in the area and move the mouse slightly, and it would jump between 1:55 and 2:09 but I just could not move the mouse precisely enough to get it to stop where I wanted.

I think I ended up just setting a number of laps instead. Would there be any way to make the slider less sensitive and therefor more precise?

At Sebring the scale ist set to 720 mins by default.
Change the Lines:

RaceTime = 720
RaceTimeScaled = 720

in the Sebring.gdb to 180 and the slider is less sensitive.
