A set of tweaks for GTR 2 focusing on the multifunction displays and gearboxes. I guess it's more of a proof-of-concept or something neat to see than it is a serious mod that I want people to download and use. There is plenty more information in the readme.
A clip of the modified MFDs can be found here. Feel free to use any of this stuff in your own creations. Please check out the readme to see the extent of what I've done; it's not just the MFDs, though I may release a graphics-only version at some point in the future. It's just going to take time to separate those bits out of my files. * I feel the need to reiterate: please make sure your files are backed up if you want to give this a try; the amount of files in this archive is pretty substantial. [05 Aug 09] Finally got confirmation on a problem I've been having: apparently using the 350Z crashes the display driver. I have absolutely no clue why this is happening, but please take this as a warning. I'll see if I can't nail down what's causing it. [05 Aug 09] Suddenly the 350Z works fine; I now suspect the culprit was be a setting in the .PLR file. I'll look into it further. [18 Sep 09] I can now say with a fair bit of confidence that the 2D Meßsysteme display in the Murciélago R-GT is accurate, perhaps not in Reiter's favorite page layout, but nonetheless in another by-the-rules display mode (four large data fields). It should be noted that the matrix font was created on a raster, per-pixel basis to be accurate. |

Interesting stuff. The gearbox work especially is very handy, not just for accuracy but also because it's indeed quite hard to find that sort of information. I've put together realistic G2 cars before, like a BMW diesel-powered Ultima, and finding a transmission that would fit and take the torque is a hurdle enough, never mind finding its ratios. This is worth downloading simply as a package of real transmissions, and as a bonus it comes with fixed displays and more!

WOW that is impressive!!!
You have made already good game even better with this, its more immersive and realistic than ever before. Very good job also with gearboxes, its that kind of stuff that makes the GTR 2 the most realistic simulation ever together with NAP ofcourse! But I dont like how the displays cannot be set off. They are always lit. How can i change that?

If you compare the way the text looks on the lit screen in my mod to the way they appear in GTR 2 by default, the difference in font edges should be very apparent: by default, the font edges are colored to match the unlit background and they stand out like a sore thumb against the bright blue one. ![]() ![]() I can't really offer a solution without feeling like the fonts will turn very ugly in one of the two states, sorry. Hopefully future engines like the one under rFactor 2 will have support for an alpha channel in the font files. |
