Arrow Season 5 - Event 8 - Daytona RC 20/10/ 2007 - PreRace Discussion

Rolling start as last time we raced here with a standing start me and some others were sliding down the banking waiting for the lights to change.

Pits are a bit tight so be extra careful not to overun you pitbox, oh and the physics at turn1 go a bit crazy if you get airbourne, but thats not going to happen is it lads :p

Server up.

Well, so far, low 42's for Berger in the Vette, I think that will be the quickest car around here. GT2 the slowest. And because we can't change tyre compounds left to right, the setup could be difficult to get good.

Also, the chicane halfway down the straightaway can be cut really bad without a penalty.

Tried out the track. After a couple of laps I was hitting low 1:42's. This track is easy if you dont count the first corner lol!

I smell a lot of blown up engines though :p

7.30am mate.
I normally try to get 1/2 hour practice in beforehand so get up at 7.00am.
Much better since daylight savings!
Also not sure when but British Summer Time must be ending soon, when it does we will get another hour lay in! wahoo!:roflmao:

I'm at work at the moment so can't verify, but I think I've done a 1:41.7 in TT in the Lister So you quick guys need to pull your finger out and dip into the 1:30's lol!
I would have thought the Maser would be the quickest round here, but we'll see.
...and I think we'll need to rely on good sportsmanship to not cut the chicane on the straight. Two wheels on the track at all times seems to be the common understanding of whats acceptable?

Low 1:41´s now. I bet the gaps will be smaller than usual, because this track is so smooth and easy to drive. Hehe.

The oval part lasts about one minute and I doubt there will be huge gaps between drivers in that part of the track. So the top of the pack have to make up for it in the first sector.

This is the most relaxed track I´ve ever raced in GTR 2! :p

There is basically no place where you can mess up your race and the gaps will be small.

The best way is brake early and cut on the left(you wont get a warning there) so u can go to the right with the car balanced and ready to acelerate

1:40:2 now! That chicane is pretty dumb though, everyone is just going to cut as much as possible.

I doubt it mate, my 1:41.7 was by taking it in third, you can go in there in fourth but I've yet to manage it without comprimising my exit. I've so far been fastest by going in there almost casually(!) and getting back on the gas asap.

I don't have a replay because I saved my lap as a time trial file, but if you want to have a look PM me your email address and I'll send it through. It's a far from perfect lap too (as usual lol) so I doubt you'd have too much trouble beating it.

I reckon I will struggle to get close to that as cannot see where at the moment I can gain 2 seconds. I must be doing something way wrong somewhere.

The Maserati is such a handful around here, its always been a car I have had trouble driving and setting up, so I expect to be near the back of the pack for this race. I did hit 190 mph/305 kph without hitting the redline in it though, so at least its fast on the oval parts

I hit 185 on the straights in the Vette. Going to be interesting when we all start drafting down the straight to the first corner

Really not enjoying my preparation for this race much, can't seem to get anywhere near a sweet spot for the setup on any of the cars. The track isn't really to my taste either so i'm expecting a midfield spot for quali, hoping to battle through some of the pack in the race. Unless i can find some pace in my limited remaining practice time. As for car choice the MC12 has recently been one of my favourites but it sways around on the banking dangerously so looking like either the vette or the lister.

I agree with Jay.The MC12 seems like a boat in the fast area or goes left or goes right it goes where the wind blows The Porcha needs more grip into the front. The Lister with his wonderful Dunlop tyres will be a mess to handle after 5 laps so the choice will be the Vette.Im hoping to qualify middle pack and just hope that first corner will be ok.Good luck to all

...haven't had much practice as I've been building a bit of a cockpit...so far in the C5R I can manage a 1:43:4xx off line with less than 30 laps practice........T1 still presents a challenge for me to find a suitable braking mark so as not to get a "love tap" in the rear under heavy braking:cry:...in T5 ( if you count that little kink along the pit wall after T1 as T2) I find I can't seem to find the proper turn in point to the apex and I loose time there...the chicane is a toss up...seems 3rd gear is best.. I think at best high :42's is achievable for me if I can get enough seat time...I'll see you guys at Hooter's across from the track...beer and wings on me

alright, i'm not really comfortable with the way some people are skipping the pit exit. i think it may impede someone into that first hairpin, just a tad unsafe. are we allowed to skip it?

I am going Lister. Tried all the cars and the Lister feels the nicest and more enjoyable to drive, for me. Best is a 1.42.9, not as quick as in the MC12 but feels like it is on tarmac and not on ice, and that I might keep it on track the whole race. so looking to quali 15 or thereabouts and try to get top 10finish by keeping it all together.

I would imagine anyone caught skipping the pit exit in quali or the race will be in trouble as the first turn here is very high speed entry and a sure accident if a car appears out the pits onto the race line.

if someone is caught skipping the pit lane, they should get some sort of penalty after the race, if possible...

lol! I'm glad this has been brought up, as up until now I thought the pit exit 'cut' was the legitimate exit!:p
I just thought the left turn was one of those bits of road chucked in there for realism sake that lead off to a dead-end or invisible wall or something. haha.
Lucky I read this thread!
