I've uploaded a quick skin guide, its awaiting approval. It assumes no knowledge of anything and tells you everything and includes loads of pictures.

It should be enough to get people started on the skins (base colour, and adding logos), it also is based on 100% free software. (Why would you pay for photoshop when the GIMP is free and can do more than enough to make skins :cool

Oh and I just had a great Idea for a lambo team. I'll hopefully release that before Friday, it will be very minimalist. Anyone looking for a custom lambo for next season? Preferably someone who has seen the attached logo before.

There are many ways, but most probably what you want to do is use the path tool to create a shape around the parts of the car you want to change the colour for. Then use the "path to selection option" and fill in you selection with the colour you want.

I'm still figuring out the paths thing. Ideally you want another layer with the coloured shape, so then if you had a red and white car, and wanted a black and yellow one(or whatever they use for an away strip), you would just have to do a fill on each of those layers.

That looks quite good. I've just uploaded part 2 of the guide and i'm working on part 3 now which will specifically deal with painting shapes on the cars. Can't believe part 1 has been downloaded over 100 times in one day

It just needed an 'idiots guide to skinnning', of which I am one . Easy to follow and understand. Homework was taking the piss a bit! Only kidding, , found it all spot on and just what I needed to get my feet wet.

cmon man its easy, its just moving a file from a zip file to your gimp folder. The zip file even has its own readme included. You will need to do lots of moving of files when you get around to making your car a standalone, look at this as practice.

ok, il give it a go, going to download that mingw like it says to!

You must have missed the part which said download the windows binaries, sounds like you downloaded something else for some reason. You don't need ming at all.

When you go to this page http://registry.gimp.org/plugin?id=4816
and click on windows binaries it downloads this file http://nifelheim.dyndns.org/~cocidiu...gimp-dds-win32

Inside that zip file are only 2 things. DDS.exe and a readme file. The readme file says the following

Code:
gimp-dds 2.0.1
(C) Copyright 2007 Shawn Kirst <skirst@fuse.net>

To install, extract these files to your GIMP plugins directory.
This directory is usually located at:
C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins
Do what the readme says and you can work with DDS files.

Update to my car. Made a lot of mistakes getting used to things, but, save, merge, save a copy, unmerge, becoming second nature. Also getting used to getting the layers in the right order. Terrific guide Karlos, no wonder it has been downloaded so much. Just a few logos to add, I think.

Not bad, not bad at all. The only thing i would change is the text 'the gunners' on the rearwing. Flip it around, so you can read it from the front of the car. That just looks better.

I'm trying to do the guide and stuff, once I learn these things i get really good at them but I'm a slow slow learner. How come when I fill the main layer, it doesn't do the doors and roof etc?

I've dropped the snowboard skin, not that it is hard to make but i didn't like when it was finished

Then i found a picture of the Lister that's in the Gran Turismo series. So i decided to work on that. And this is what i got so far.

Thanks mate. This is just an addon to the pack we already have. Just with cars people wanted in the pack and some 'homemade' ones. If there is anything you want added, let me know.
