Funny, I was looking at the same car at carclassic website yesterday. Have you seen the price! It looks like it needs a fair bit of TLC.
You would have to be VERY confident you knew what you were looking at to buy that one. The steering arm is definately a "non original" item. I can't quite make out the rear caliper, but it does not look quite right. Likewise, the ID plates look like they have had "History" - at least it says 1600vb which would be right .No competition history, so probably very hard to trace back whether or not it was used as a works recce car. Notice it has a clock where the oil temp would be There are tales of many "Usine" Alpines being faked in France being sold to the unwary. I have been told that the Alpine records for works cars were very badly kept, so finding out if a car really was works is very very hard. Best bet is by tracing back owners and researching original photos etc. showing the car in events. For a lot less money, for sure it would be very interesting to have an Alpine like that. |
