Default mechanical failures

hi, dunno where else to put this but ive done a few races with the mechanical failures on (not time scaled) and ive only once had the engine blow (after 15 laps or so! my own fault tho, by constantly over revving on down shifts! lol), is it just the engine that goes? or would i have to do a hard long race to find other failures? eg gearbox, suspention, lights etc. cheers.

That's a good question! I'm pretty sure that your lights won't fail because there isn't a "light failure" sound clip in the Pit Sounds file. As for other failures, I think they do happen but the only time it has so far happened to me is in the pits after a big crash. Everything seems fine (except for maybe tire punctures or missing splitter, etc.) but once they begin work, the crew cheif comes on and says "You've had a mechanical failure..." but, it doesn't really seem like it because about 5 seconds later, you're off and running smoothly. I do "time-scaled" failures and everything and so far my longest race has been 2 hrs 20 mins, which is really a sprint race (in ALMS, I hardly do less than 1hr if I'm doing single player and not in "custom Championships"). When I get to longer races, and if this question hasn't been answered yet, I'll let you know!

seems a bit naff that the only thing that goes wrong is the engine!im a bit reluctant to do a full 24h race because ide be pretty miffed if the engine went with not many hours to go!if i lost a gear or lost a h/lamp or even get a random puncture?,it would at least be more realistic & i could get it back to the pits for repair!obviously if you trash the car,it might break, but if an engine fails after an hour of thrashing, then how long will it last without being thrashed but keeping up a good pace in a 24h!? perhaps a thought for future racing games!

More than just the engine can break. My transmission/gearbox went out on a long race and I only had 3rd gear for a few laps. Eventually the engine died after running at max throttle for too long.

Of course after collisions we can have a punctured tire or damaged suspension. Hell, more than once I've made it back to the pits after having a wheel torn off completely. See the pic.

LOL! nice!, not the sort of thing you would see the real f1 boys getting fixed in a race tho! whats most annoying is if you change to the AI driver during a race! you come into the pits, perhaps to get the car repaired or just for fuel and tyres - swop to AI driver, he then goes out and writes the car off again on the first lap after coming out of the pits! Not that is PANTS! lol "Oh Look, The Pit in light has come on again, and so soon after pitting too!? Hmm!"
