Ok so I was in a race at Barbagallo using the MMM V8 Supercars championship mod.
I had 3 laps to go and I was leading the race, and I drifted wide at one corner (first left hander after the first corner I think) in the first sector and ended up taking a scenic tour of the left of the first part of the track - I ended up having to drive round behind the crowds at the side of the track, I rejoined to find the game had suddenly decided I was 25th out of 31 cars. How come? Did the game think I cut a whole part of the track out on purpose? I was 15 seconds in the lead so there was no way 25 cars overtook me!!! Can anyone explain this to me as I'm totally lost and now rather annoyed

It depends on how close the other AI cars were following each.
For example: if there were a few tenthes between each car then it wouldn't take much. Tom. |

I've done that before at that track, same thing happened to me, I believe the game somehow thought you 'cut' the track and cheated a little bit, even though it was innocent, worse things have happened to me at that track ha:p

Not all add-on tracks include track cutting rules. If you do cut the track you will usually get a warning, though if you cut it badly you will get a stop and go straight away. Bear in mind the game can't know if you cut a track on purpose or accidentally.
Since you didn't get a warning or a stop and go, I think the issue is something else. The track is split into 3 sectors. At the end of each sector is an invisible sector "detector". My guess is by taking your detour you missed out going through a sector "detector" which confused the game. So for example if you go through sector 1, skip sector 2 and then go through sector 3 the game effectively puts you back a lap. Track editors can perhaps avoid this by making certain parts of the track undriveable or making the sector detectors much wider than the track width, but to be fair the track converter probably didn't envisage anyone driving behind the crowds to get back to the track. |

I've learnt the track now and set the Holden up a bit better and I won the race with no problems the other day, well if you don't count running out of fuel as I crossed the line
