you sould have waited, because shift 2 is soon here and shift 1 has controller input lag, it can be fixed though, with matt's overhaul mod

Firstly, unpack the game and add -loose to the Shift shortcut. Follow the guide on the first page of the DLC Cars page linked below, it has all the instructions you need!

Get the following:

DLC Cars: http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=209094
DLC Tracks: http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=30649
Overhaul mod (this is the newest beta 1.42, there'll be a new release in the next couple of days by djotefsoup): http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/sh...&postcount=551
or Overhaul 1.3 full: http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=29109
If you don't like the handling in Overhaul Mod, try Sharp Mod by Juls in the dl section, but the AI with that one are a bit off. Otherwise check the downloads section and get the ones you like, read through the forum too for things like HD Mod etc.

Enjoy, it's a fun game

@Sean_S36, thanks for starting this thread for us late comers I just bought my copy early this morning and still trying to research on what version I have (does STEAM automatically patch it?, I tried to find any update via STEAM and didn't find any option)

It's funny and confusing to Goggle answers when most discussions are in 2009. Even goes far back when Overhaul was considered as a hack
Some gamers just don't know the difference between arcade and sim.

I'm definitely taking Headsoup's advice.

Make sure you use JSGME to install mods. Should be linked in one of those threads above.

Other mods you might like:
Pro Career Mod (longer races)
Sunmod 2.0 (pretty)
ShaderMod PCGH Edition V3 Prettier, if your machine is up to it.

Question

I'm about to install Overhaul 1.3, per instruction

Quote:
Installation instructions:
* Full install: extract contents of your chosen folder into your unpacked NFS Shift installation folder
the folders are already extracted, do I just copy the folders then and paste into the unpacked NFS Shift installation folder and over write?

thank you

It's a good idea to have a backup of the overwritten files just in case you dont like the handling.

Did you save a backup copy of your entire game, just after you unpacked?
This practice provides you with a means to recall a freshly unpacked set of files, without having to go through the whole unpacking process again.

Be safe and use the generic mod enabler
http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/sof...cts-jsgme.html

Unless you're confident in overwriting your files, and resetting them back to default when you don't like a mod.

@JDougNY
is this mod enabler THE mod manager everyone is currently using? I'm still researching on what to use for the most downloaded mods.

thanks

Also, is there a way to unlock all cars and all tracks for quick races only and not be used for online purposes or career mode?

Meaning no points gained, just experience each car and each track?

I see an Audi R8 skin that has the most download but I can't get to it (locked??) because I rarely play nor do I play online ( I assume this is how you unlock cars and tracks? )

Yes, that is what many people are using. I don't use it myself, but it's good for people that use a combination of mods in their game, or if you want to test out a mod real quick to see if you want to add it into your game. The use of the mod enabler saves one from trashing their game, as some people will provide you things to download that are done wrong....changing global settings that they have no business touching with their mods, etc.

In quick race, you can race on all tracks by default. In the car select screen for quick race, you can switch to "Stock Cars" and race all cars that you own and any car that is available from a tier (or Tiers) that you have unlocked by gaining stars/xp points. Those stars/xp points can be gained by either running quick races or running through some of the Career race events.

If you need to fast track to have all car tiers unlocked, you would need a save game from somebody. You can also edit some xml files to unlock the car tiers with a lower star count (like I've done), but it's a bit more involved.

thanks folks, I'll try to earn my stars and points as much as I can and learn this game.

so far this game is impressive. it's definitely not GTR/GTREvo/Race On, but it is lots of fun and very beautiful.

Thanks to the Overhaul 1.3 Mod, first thing I noticed was the random camera on replay. I prefer it, it gives me a TV replay perspective that I don't get to see often on tv

What's good about the game is that you can tailor it to your own tastes. If you prefer the more sim-like handling, stay with the Overhaul mod. If you check the thread for it, you'll find version 1.44 beta. It has some changes to aerodynamics (among other things), that make the cars less forgiving.

Djosetsoup has been working on the aerodynamics, as the game had most things either set as "0", or set to max values, or set with values that didn't make sense. It's more of getting the wings/diffuser to actually function...reduce downforce when turning the vehicle, etc.

Yer get all the stars before you progress to next tier is different.

On this re-install I have Tier5 open but have even not touched 3 or 4 yet.

Concentrate on every race first 5 stars then if you need Press 1 ( for restart)
and concentrate only on the 6th star.

With DLC and mods, I probably leave this on the hardrive for a while again
its no sim but it is better then a lot of the mods I like in various sims for fun
value at least. Better cockpits in mods on average as well imo.

As long as good arcade/sim like all the above I mentioned has decent immersion I am happy enough for a few weeks but then the lack of content puts it on the back burner.

That is one thing Shift blows others away with.

edit: I would not be surprised if Shift becomes like HighStakes did and lives past its used by date, 1000 cars and addon tracks etc ...

I haven't downloaded any of those skins, but I just read the "Readme" text for each of them. As long as they have setup the files in the proper folders, you could load it into the mod enabler. Otherwise, you would have to paste the files directly into your game.
All of the instructions say to "Backup your original files and copy..", so it appears those mods may not be setup with proper game folders for all of the files.

Those 3 mods replace existing liverys, so you would need to purchase the car, then select the livery from the Livery selection menu.

I maybe doing this wrong

STEAM is installed in C:\ drive and Generic Mod Enabler is installed in E:\ drive
Mods are placed inside the Mod Folder

As you can see I have one mod enabled: Wipeout. Unfortunately, when I play the game, nothing is wipeD out

Do I need to install the Generic Mod Enabler in C:\ also?

thanks

Most definitely not. I was wondering where the manual was. thanks
hopefully will have some time after work.

I did some Quick Race with some Loaner Cars: R8 and Lambo, vs 1 Ai of similar type, and I was impressed on how the Ai tried to block my pass and tried to get away.
