Default AI doesn't use upgrades/works in quick race

I choose my works Jaguar XKR and go for a race on Bathurst, hoping to be up against similar cars.
Instead I'm up against 15 supercars. Bugatti Veyrons, McLaren MP412Cs, Zonda Rs. All stock supercars with factory paint.

This seems like some kind of oversight, because in the Works events in the career they have no problem driving works cars, liveries and all.

I wonder if this can be modded? I'd like to be up against stock cars when I myself choose one, but when I've got a race car I expect similar competition.

It's extremely annoying when you have a heavily tuned up car and you suddenly see stock super cars when you are in quick.

It kills the fantastic immersion the game give.

I hate it when I drive a tuned up E30 and see myself competing with super cars instead similarly modified retro cars.

The game has made so many things right like the awesome human like AI or controls, but it also failed badly in custom livery tuning and AI cars visual configuration.

I hope the GT1 and GT3 races are awesome as I think I'll probably play them a lot after I finish the career.

Hmmm. I didn't even know about this. Haven't really been trying quick-race.

While I understand that this can be annoying to players who want to race modified vehicles against similar competition, it can also be seen as something a bit positive. The fact that the vehicles you race with appear stock with factory colors gives it a Gran Turismo feeling. If I recall correctly, there even was a mod for the original Shift that did exactly what we see here: force the AI to drive stock vehicles when you race a stock vehicle and drive race cars when you drive a race car.

Just my humble opinion. Bear in mind that while I do find it not to be much of an immediate issue, it should be fixed or then, it should have more options added for quick-race customization.

The game should be smarter about this IMO. If the player chooses a stock road car, then the AI should also choose stock or lightly upgraded cars with no livery.
If the player chooses a heavily upgraded or works car, then the AI should drive upgraded and works cars with liveries.

I know about that. But that's not what I'm looking for here.
I want AI to choose a more similar class of car to me, but I do still want some variety on the field.

All those racing liveries go to waste in the game if the AI doesn't use them, and if the player does then he's the odd one out in the race.

Not the highest priority problem in the game, but I hope Shift 2 gets enough support so that gameplay issues like this can be addressed in updates.

I am writing my complaints in the EA forums but I cant get any answers there. I wish SMS had a separate forum/site that we could report our problems with the game.

The reason i play Shift 2 because i want to play a NFS, not a GT clone.

NFS has been pretty much involving racing in cars with lots of liveries. Except Hot Pursuit.

Where are the links to the official forums?

Resurrecting the thread, because after the patch this is still an issue.

Also something interesting. I did the Brno endurance race in the career, and the AI car selection was much more like what I think it should be.
They used liveries, and seemed to use upgrades more. I was using a works converted Dodge Charger R/T, and noticed an AI using the same thing with a different livery.
A full grid of cars with liveries and even some works and a GT3 car, perfect!

When I take the same works Dodge Charger to quick race, I'm put up against stock Buggattis and Zondas in factory paint. This makes no sense.

I've seen this brought up in the patch discussion threads too, but no word from developers. Can we please get some attention on this? It ruins quick race for me, the career doesn't always provide the kind of races I want.

I would be happy to at least see the same logic used for selecting cars in endurance career events used in quick race mode.

Oh yea! That's definitely a huge problem IMO. I really, really, really hope it can be, and will be fixed in one of patches to come.

Here's the saddest one:

Choose the Porsche GT3 RSR and go to quickrace, and choose "Same class"

The grid is composed only of GT3 RSR's, some with the liveries and some not, those without the liveries are all the same default white color.

Quick Race is really boring. Just watch this video:
This was Hard AI and it was no competition at all. I was even powersliding all corners and AI still was far away from catching me. This is so wrong.

I stopped playing Shift 2 because of the this (besides I am waiting for the EADM patch). This is a huge issue to me, because quick race is essential. Career does not provide the track/car/race-length combinations I want.

Please fix this!

I love to quick race too and have to agree, maybe it can be easily modified if we know which files to tinker with ? Just a thought !

Yes, i hope this is fixed. Its especially annoying when i choose a class D car(say, that LE Alfa), tune it up to be about 500-600 rating, start a quick race with 'same class' setting and the opponents are stock Challenger Concepts.

Obviously it would be the best if we could decide a bit more indepth on what cars opponents use in Quick Race...i think if we were able to choose exactly what performance range we want, or better yet what cars.

But first things first, i'd be satisfied completely with a fix to this annoying bug. When i choose a car that starts out in C class(example: Evo 9) as opponents i get other C class cars, like Dodge Charger R/T(thats actually quite a fun race, you know). But if i'd take an RX-7, and tune it up slightly to be in the 500's range, i would probably get those Chargers as well, but obviously i want to race against other D class to C class upgraded cars.

^this. Just take the decision making away from the game and let me setup the field as I wish. That would make Quick Race perfect. I would pay $50 more for this feature!

Hope this alright to post on this forum (xbox user), but this is one feature i would love to see be added to the game. - please add this into the game SMS.

also i would like to be able to create offline custom championships, i think that would be awesome.

cheers

sadly, I think we'll have to wait for Shift3 for this.

Patches are primarly for bug-fixing, not for new features. We can all stop dreaming now.

It's not really a new feature, just a change in AI car selection logic which they already got right for the endurance career events.
I don't see why minor gameplay things like these can't be sorted in a patch, I've seen games go through much bigger changes than this in patches.

In a game that sold millions of copies, I don't think a few gameplay tweaks to satisfy the customers is too much to ask

I guess it comes down to how much support EA is willing to fund, but with the sales these games get it would be insulting if they limited support as badly as they did for Shift 1.

i like the idea. but i'm pessimistic. adding such a feature would require to much testing, coding = money.

I think people were envisioning a full-blown AI selection screen. Or at least that's what I was trying to describe. I get to pick exactly what goes in each position in the starting grid.

Maybe it's too much. Maybe just fixing the quick race logic to be like the career endurances AI selection would satisfy 85% of the people (probably me too). But having 100% control would be impressive.

Yea that's all I'm hoping for, to have it just like Shift 1 where they used upgrades and random liveries.

Restricting to type (Retro, muscle ect) would be great if possible too, like you can do for online. Not as important. It doesn't need a new setting, it can be standard behaviour.

Right now quick race just looks crap when you choose a race-prepped car and the rest are stock. It takes away a lot of the fun for me especially when I pick the old works Challenger and I'm put up against stock Bugattis and Zondas, the Challenger doesn't even stand a chance there.

I'm totally happy for the game to pick the individual opponents for me, as long as it includes upgraded/works cars and some race liveries on the grid.

What happens if you take the works converted Gumpert Apollo to Quick Race?

This is really so goddamn annoying and I hope they fix it. Picked my works SLS for a 3-lap race around Hockenheim GP with same class opponents. The field consisted only of stock Pagani Huayra, Koenigsegg CCX and Gumpert Apollo, all without liveries. Not fun at all.
