You shouldnt need to hack it,
You should be able to set what time the race (or session) starts,
This is how it was in GTR2 so I would imagine its the same in Race07

Unfortunately Martin is right (As always ) But once by fluke in my old racing league on of the practices was at night and it was slower times than at day but a heck of a lot more fun

Set a few of my imported tracks to start the races at 8 or 10pm at night. Although the headlights don't shine on the road and you can see the car shadows as you would when it is daylight, it makes it different - especially on tracks where the graphics and detail doesn't look too good in the first place during daylight racing as the darkness hides it.

THis is from my .plr file, i havnt tried it, but it suggest to me that u can race at night!

Race Start Hour="20"
Use System Time="0" // Session start time for none-Cup races uses machine time

Maybe a mile off the mark, who knows
I dont!

2. If you go into where the track files are located for your game, such as: C:\Program Files\RACE 07 Offline\GameData\Locations\Zolder (or whatever track you want to change), and then open the GDB file for it in Notepad, and in there you can change the times for when each session starts, so just change the times and save the file:

TestDayDay = Wednesday
TestDayStart = 15:30
Practice1Day = Saturday
Practice1Start = 15:00
Practice2Day = Saturday
Practice2Start = 18:30
QualifyDay = Saturday
QualifyStart = 20:00
WarmupDay = Sunday
WarmupStart = 15:00
RaceTime = 25
RaceTimeScaled = 25
Race1Day = Sunday
Race1Start = 21:30
Race1Laps = 11
RaceLaps = 11
Race2Day = Sunday
Race2Start = 23:00
Race2Laps = 11

3. I have also managed to do it for Monza. To do that you have to copy all the files apart from the Models and Textures folders for the track (such as the AIW, CAM, TRK, HAT files etc) into a new folder. Then rename them all (for example I renamed them all as "MonzaNight"). You then have to create a new .GDB file as you are not able to open the original file as it is encrypted. In this GRB file, put the start times you want etc for each session and wherever it is needed, put the name of the track (as shown in the image below):

http://i29.tinypic.com/2yy78k2.jpg

Then once you have saved the gdb file, copy all the files back into the original folder as below:

http://i27.tinypic.com/2q2iurt.jpg

Now when you go into your game, and look in the addon tracks list, you should have a track called MonzaNight etc

I am not responsible if anything goes wrong - but that is how I managed to get it to work.

I have also tried Macau and Pau, but as the street lights don't work I haven't bothered keeping them

A few things I have noticed on Monza are that at night, the wire fence in certain places flashes as if it was a light, and the lights are a bit temperamental around Parabolica - one or 2 only light up as you get near them.

You can also set the track to race at dusk if you select the race to start at 18:30. 20:30 gives you night time racing, and 05:30 allows you to race at dawn.

The tracks that have lighting on them generally seem to be tracks that were also originally in GTR2 such as Monza, Anderstorp, Valencia and add on tracks that have been converted from GTR2 such as Donington and Zhuhai.

I have also had trackside lighting working on Zolder.

Not got any lighting working on Macau, Brand Hatch or Pau.

Why did you change the entries SettingsFolder / Copy / AI ?
Is it necessary?
Could not you leave it "Monza"?

Thx

I don't know, didn't try or think about it really. It takes so long for the game to load sometimes I just did it all in one go not expecting it to work and it did, so rather than starting to play with the files to work out which ones were not needed I just left it for now as I'm not clued up on how the game recognises which files it needs

Considering I accidentally managed to delete Imola whilst messing around (hooray for the previous folder versions thing in Vista) its probably safer for me to have 2 copies of some of the files anyway as I'm useless for backing things up.

I'll have a play tonight and see (hadn't thought about it that much to be honest).

Since this is still the same engine as in gtr2, shouldn't it be able to do nightracing just like in gtr2? With lights that actually... wel you know... give light?

Depends what you mean by the "same engine" as in GTR2 and it depends on what you mean by "be able to do"

Simbin describe the RACE engine as a branch of their basic engine with GTR2 on another branch.

Quote:
SimBin: "RACE is built on gMotor2 just like GT Legends and GTR 2 are, ..., what we did do was to take what we had learned from all of our previous productions and then to create a new branch of the game engine so that it would support the new features that we wanted to introduce with RACE. The branch used for GT Legends and GTR 2 did not offer the support we needed and to some extend offered features that we did not need for RACE, such as a full day night cycle for example."

"A short list of new elements we have introduced with our new branch of the engine would include, dynamic rain on the windows, working window wipers, support for bugs and stone chips on the windows, AI in multiplayer sessions, two race format, completely new shader system, rev limiter sound tied to performance, idle mode, double sided windows, transparent visors being visible behind a double sided window, full 3D wheels and above all we have upped the over all polygon count on the cars by roughly 40 per cent on both tracks, cars and interiors, this would not have been possible if we had decided to work with the GTR 2 branch of the game engine."
