Default [MOD] Dirt Burns Rally - Remake

=====================
INTRODUCTION
=====================

Hello! my name is Saif..

I'm trying to improve Colin McRae Dirt (1) physics, since it is a game that has spectacular long rally stages (like Dirt 2 and 3 Don't) and it has
Potential modding capabilities to its mechanics. I am basing my knowledge from the Rally Sim Richard Burns Rally game to adapt it's physics in here.

Unfortunately, Dirt 1 Physics are pretty much bad, and Dirt 2 and 3 Don't do us any better (for rally preferrers heh)

I learned a lot from this game mechanichs, though this doesn't mean the mod has perfect behaviour as I would like to, but means that I am capable of changing its
stuff if knowing where the issues are exactly.

This mods changes Cars (only 4 of them now) and Rally Tracks (all of them) physics and mechanichs, such as car's grip, responsiveness, gearing,
differentials, force feedback, acceleration and more...

In the tracks I improved the terrain features, such as heat caused to the wheels, specific grip per terrain type, hardness, dump feeling, etc

=====================
RELEASE 0.8 Specific Notes
=====================

Totally new Braking System (Still experimental).
New variables discovered to adjust influence of braking in the car, very important to stability and maneuver. Car front cornering, understeering, etc

Needs feedback!

=====================
RELEASE 0.7 Specific Notes
=====================

Mod was remade from scratch since I learned a LOT about this game mechanichs, so its a start from scratch and I need your feedback and opinions!
Any help game related or not is appreciated, I can't risk saying this game is capable of everything we want in our dreams but I think we can approach something

=====================
SPECIFIC DETAILS
=====================

--------------------------------------------------
CAR CHANGES or CHANGES CAPABLE OF IMPROVEMENT
(Means stuff I'm able to mod)
--------------------------------------------------

------STEERING-----

- Sensitivity and Delay
- Responsiveness
- Weight

------SUSPENSION---

FRONT AND REAR

- Fast and Slow Bump
- Fast and Slow Rebump
- Spings Compression and Tightness

-----GRAVITY-------

- Weight Distribution

-----ENGINE--------

- RPM and Speed Limitations
- Energy Compression (how much speed reduces when not throttling)
- Ignition and Launch Power
- Turbo potential
- Turbo strenght on rear wheels (to cause spinning)

-----TRANSIMISSION--

- Speed Strenght when throtling at wrong transmission level
- Lenght of transmission (game "medium" default was ridiculously short)
- Power per transmission (kinda turbo stuff)

------WHEELS--------

FRONT AND REAR

- Grip (multiplies over the terrain's grip)
- Frontal Tyre Slip (Can't understand yet the rear back ones)
- Tyre Pressure (Not modified by this version yet)
- Pendum Power (recovering stability after spinning, or power spinning, there are many variables modifying this feature so its complicated to achieve wanted results)
- Cambers (not modified by this version yet)

------BRAKES--------

FRONT AND REAR

- Brake Strenght
- Brake duct Size (was ridiculously small in vanilla so braking was very tight)
- Brake BIAS (favoured the rear braking now to improve powersliding and entering corners)
- Car behaviour when braking, such as face cornering or understeering power and repower

------SOUND---------

- Reduced Engine Whining (I hated how much it yelled heh)

=======================
EXTRA NOTES (Read before playing)
=======================

I play with a G27, 540 Degrees of rotation, IN game, i've set 30% Dead Zone in Braking And Accelerating, since the game doesn't offer braking accelerating lineality, pedals are kinda over sensitive, so this somehow helps

All 4 cars have been modded kinda differently, if you feel uncomfortable with one of them and better with another one, please give the feedback as they are modded differently for experimenting purposes

=======================
EXTRA FEATURES ADDED
=======================

- Camera Shaking
- One New "far" cockpit camera
- Damage increased by 100% (may look ridiculous sometimes but its worth not having to crash :p)
- Dirt Bloom Tool (Not Designed by me)
It will adjust bloom to tweak visuals to our preferences (this tool was not designed by me).
I Suggest reducing the Color and Bloom Sliding Bars
- AI Rally times toned down
- Dirt more compressed, hopefully i'll be able to make it last longer

=======================
Known Issues
=======================

- In the first minute since the game launches, you may experience short freezes, starting in the first time you reach the main menu.

- The RPM Clock in the Hud may not complete its progress when the car is ready to gear up (sometimes)

- Unknown reason for the Citroen C4 to have unstable braking, must be some typo im unable to find

======================
IMPORTANT
======================

You can only play only 4WD Cars except the CR4 car. This means Peugueot 307, Subaru, Mitsubishi Evo IX and Citroen C4

This is to keep testing and improving before moving on to apply changes to everyone else (besides each car must have their own adjustments and personal testing, but an Idea of WHAT to do is required, and Im still on it)

AI Cars on Rally Cross and similar, can have wrong behavior, since this mod changes stuff the AI is not able to adapt

=====================
INSTALLATION
=====================

Extract Modded files inside Dirt directy. Extract and overwrite original files
to recover original game data.

Note: You need Dirt 1.21 or 1.22 (im using 1.21 but I think theres no problem in 1.22 as they change
nothing but security stuff)

This looks promising. Can make this mod work for Dirt 3?

Thanks for the mod, I'm trying to play with it right now.
Back in the days I played DIRT with fixed (lockable) brakes and lowered tyregrip level from "DiRT AiO Editor (an all-in-one tool)" http://community.codemasters.com/for...-one-tool.html
and it feel much better than original game, I also played all tracks - all cars - all career mode with this mods installed - everything works fine.

I also tryed to play with "REAL DIRT" mod
http://community.codemasters.com/for...ysics-mod.html
and it feels that something wrong with AI in CORR and other races.

What about this mod "Dirt Burns Rally - Remake"
Of course it feels much better than original game, it also feels better than "REAL" mod, this week I'll try to complete whole rally championship game mode and tell you what I think about it. But now I cant play with this camera shaking (cockpit view) - it is too much for my small 4:3 screen, please tell me how to remove this feature.
Another thing, I play with graphics mod "Dirt have fun v0.3" http://community.codemasters.com/for...-dirt-2-a.html
very good one. I see your mod overwrites some files of this graphics mod - it will be very good if you can itegrate it in your mod (or something like this).

Thank you very much for trying this mod, please be aware that AI players (meant for Rally-cross, Corr, or any event that has real-time AI racers), aren't supposed to adapt to the new Terrain/Car mechanics, so I don't think the full championship would be very playable. This mod only tunned the C4, Subaru, 307 and Evo IX cars.

Please give us feedback for what you think about the different cars and stages, as this is not yet completely finished

About the Camera, if you are not happy with cockpit (im aware its shaking too much it will be fixed), just use the All In One Tool to "remove shaking camera feature".

have fun!

Hello People, thanks for your feedback..

0.8 Remake version incoming..!

I Have discovered very important new features in the mechanics of this game, these are:

-ABS. Braking Lock related
-ABS Lock Timer. (How much braking before the wheels totally lock)
-Braking Strenght Factor on Steering
-Braking Grip Factor (Very useful since it allows me to increase terrain's grip but also increase car power-steering when braking/hand-braking)
-Under-steering and "face cornering of the car"
-Spin Power (i.e related to the wheels spinning after launch)

Since these adjustments, I am testing and improving game maneuverability so stay tunned!

Today was my third try at v0.7. And I still can't get it.
Copilot notes are too delayed now with this kind of brakes.
Brakes are too sensitive. Braking just a little and - no way - I always get wheels locked and car won't stop. Wet tarmac, Britain.
Another thing is, for example on the wet Britain gravel Subaru breaks feels crazy compared to Evo IX - when you slam on the pedal, evo goes straight line all the way, but Subaru at the end of this heavy breaking goes crazy and spinning off the track.

What about cars physics: when you holding throttle you actually always get understeering in the corners. When you releasing the throttle car slowly goes to oversteering and than at one point it quickly goes to oversteering, it goes to oversteering very fast and the only way to control this is to push the throttle again. I mean it always feels like dancing around this invisible point when car quickly goes to oversteering. It feels wrong to me.
With this kind of physics it is very easy to make a handbrake turns, because car goes over this point and you get massive oversteering and pushing the throttle to go on straight line after hairpin.
It don't feels like RBR, but it is hardcore stuff (In good value), so congrats with that Keep it up.

Thank you very much for your feedback, and your complaints are EXACTLY what I have fixed in v0.8 which Ill be releasing closer later today, I have found stuff related to the Car weight at braking and what was causing that extremely sensitivity when turning while braking...

The ABS feature it is also something it will help, it will have some kind of delayed wheel lockout and specially it will help to brake gently while entering a corner to get the face of the car pointing out the inside face of the corner, getting a clear advantage at handling

Also, try to increase Deadzone in pedals, since Dirt 3 doesn't has lineality options for pedals

hf!

Just wondering what settings you use for the Force Strength, Force Weight and Effects Strength in game??

It's the first time I have set DiRt up so I was just wondering if there are any other tweaks and/or mods I should be aware of?

Cheers.

hello!

Thank you for your support, the best help I can get on this is receiving four feedback!!

I didn't have the time enough to keep the mod updated, and for example I noticed that Wet termac has an extremely unplayable understeering force

but as soon as I am able to I will get back to fix it

so as I said before, the best thing I can get is feedback, because its a lot of work and changes, and cant test everything!

on the other hand, it is NOT possible to add tracks or cars, it is hardcoded and we do not have a model exporter or a track editor. Only skins can be modified and there are some out there.

Finally, about my G27 configuration, I use leightweight forcefeedback with 540 degrees rotation. And some deadzone in the brakes because it is pretty much sensitive by default

As this is the first time I played the game I don't have the cars unlocked which you modified............I tried to race with the first 4wd car you have to unlock some others but it is totally undrivable.

None of the cheat codes work for this game anymore either so I cant unlock the cars I need...........should have unlocked them first I guess......

I'll try and get the Scooby and see if I can give some feedback.

Found a 100% save game after some searching and I have all the cars now. Went for a test in the WRX and was quite impressed. Took a while to get my G25 feeling acceptable and I still feel like I am not really in full control of the car........could be input lag due to having V sync enabled. Without it I get terrible screen tearing and stuttering.

Absolutely amazed by how great this game looks!! After turing down the bloom effects with the bloom reduction tool the game looks so crisp and realistic.

Shame it is not possible to properly adjust the pedal axis.........even with a 15-25% deadzone on the brake pedal it still feels terrible. The car just wont slow down as I want it to.....

I think there is great potential to make a really great rally sim out of Dirt but I fear that the lack of controller calibration options for the pedals could really hurt. I just felt a bit disconected from the car..........No matter how much work you do on the physics it is always going to be a compromise..........maybe it's not that much of an issue. (Could be the input lag I was speaking of before).

Really good work so far with this project........of course it's not quite on a par with RBR yet but your going in the right direction. As I said before there is a great potential to make an absolutely stunning rally sim with Dirt as a base......graphics are sweet!! Rally stages are really decent. Fairly good selection of cars.

Will try and do some more testing.

Cheers.

thank you, the project is kinda paused because of real life issues.

Last thing I was doing was fixing the extreme understeering on wet tarmac and looking for a way to adjust the braking sensitivity for axis pedal issue you mention too.

Gonna subscribe to this thread in hopes it keeps getting developed. DiRT 1, for me, was best with an Xbox controller. It certainly seems that was their core "hardware base". I tried previously with a Logitech G27 and I don't remember what exactly but it was enough to make me uninstall.

If things can get sorted I'd love to ride Pikes Peak again. No rally game should be without it.

I've tried to get into RBR but can't due to the graphics. I agree that the physics are spot on (undeniable, really) but the lack of graphical fidelity means that I'm constantly misjudging my speed and basically NEVER completing a single course properly.
