Wierd Video Effect

Has anyone ever had this problem. I was playing GTR2 last night and had a strange floating racing groove on the track I was driving on. I thought it just might be this particular track, so I tried a couple of other tracks and had the same effect. I would drive into a turn and the racing groove would first be floating above the the actual track surface, it looked like a layer of fog, second the groove would not correspond with the turn. Any ideas as to what might be causing this and how do I fix it?
