Odd screen corruption / flickering problem

Recently I having noticed that in GTR2 (but not Race07 or any other games) I am getting some odd screen flickers... My rig:

Q6600 (stock 2.4Ghz), 3GB RAM, 8800GTS 640M, 1920*1200 LCD, G25 wheel, striped SATA300 disks. Vista Ultimate 32bit.

All individual components check out, there's no bottlenecks, other games run just fine with no stuttering or flickers... GTR2 also used to do the same!

GFX settings are: Latest 175.16 WHQL drivers. runing GTR2 in 1920*1200 32bit. 16AF, 4xAA, LOD clamp enabled, Vsync on (tried off as well). I play in cockpit view.

The _really_ odd thing is that this only seems to occur under heavy braking!!! It happens with standard and custom skins, and happens on standard and custom tracks.

I don't know what I changed recently but I have obviously broken something. I did enable "arms in cockpit" recently but itgave an actuall odd stutter (known issue) so disabled that again.

Most other things are standard...

It's definitely NOT related to Vsync - it happens regardless of the setting.

This is driving me nuts - I don't really want to reinstall unless I have to because of the mods etc I have added... I suspect an issue in the PLR file but am not sure what to look for.

I guess (thinking as I type) I should start a new profile and see if the behaviour occurs there too... I will try that this evening but would welcome any other suggestions on how I may resolve or diagnose this without actually going through a reinstall

do you have any hud mods enabled - data, gps, etc
they are known to cause that kind of thing sometimes

Not sure if I can help much....But a reinstall, is not as painful as it seems

Just backup your WHOLE "GameData" folder, and "UserData" Folder, that way it's very quick and easy to reinstall all Mods/Tracks...and all your settings..

...But maybe someone can give a simple answer to your problem
