Hey guys
I'm converting a cockpit from another game and the cockpit comes with files that are named something like leather_NRM.tga. Those files are what look like a leather texture but in a blue/purple kind of hue. I'm trying to give the dashboard of the cockpit a leather look but using the standard texture it uses I can't do that, it just comes out looking like a smooth texture. Is there anyway I can use the _NRM file to create the leather look? Thanks. |

You can use it for creating a spec map. I guess if GTL or GTR2 supported normal or bump maps they would have been used before.

Thanks.
I tried it as a bump map, and it does kind of work, but all it actually does is darken the texture and kind of flickers every now and then depending on the track/lighting. As a spec map it doesn't really do what I want either. The bit that is supposed to be leather still looks flat and like plastic and has no leather look to it. I guess the only way to get a proper leather look is to re-do the original texture, or remap the leather part to a new texture, the latter is probably what I'll have to do as the leather part of the map is mapped to a tiny square on the original texture. |

The flicker does tell me something, probaly has to do with the 'bias' settings.
I get that a lot in BTB, where textures for RBR are set to -4 bias. If I set them to -1 bias they look fine in GTL. |

You have to make a bump map from your texture before applying it as a bump for that material. Just in case you didn't realise this. NVidia's DDS plug in makes bump maps.
Also, with .tga files used in other titles to texture things; it's easy to convert them to .dds images, and GMotor2 games will use them, even if the material specifies a .tga image. I don't know the size of your .tga files, but I've seen some mods using 16Mb .tga images that lose NO quality when converted to 256Kb .dds files. |
