5pm race start with no lighting? Seems an odd choice.

They're being quite optimistic aren't they? The sun sets around 7.30 doesn't it? What if as you say there is rain or a delayed start? It seems a bit freakin' stupid just for the sake of a few European's not having to get out of bed early!

I actually enjoy having to stay up or get up really early, it kind of adds spice to the otherwise dull lifeless existence that is modern F1.

Bernie needs a freakin' enema!

We get every other F1 race televised at the wee hours, so how hard is it for the European countries to have 1 round televised early or late in the day? Stupidity!

Well this also screws up our television times I would assume.
Other programes will cut in which are regulars at a 5pm slot, so the racing would be cut short
THat is just my suspicion though.

And Freddys right, The F1 races are held at about 10pm here on some nights, and sometimes later if the MotoGP is on, we still manage to watch it, and I have school aswell

darm man your lucky..... every 2nd race here in brizzy is at like 2-3am... but if u counted alllllll the times aussies have to get up or stay up to watch a F1 race... added them all together thats a hell of a lot and a 5 aclock start so some lazy europains can get up early like common some 1 will die cause they wont be able to see or is every race gonna finish under the safety car so they dont crash?.... i blame the french they rather make love than get up early

On the other hand, do you have a DVR? All you need to do is record the race and watch it at a civilized time. Just stay away from any threads or news reports of the race. That's what I do.

Yeah...but the sound of cars helps me sleep and I have mastered the art of falling asleep just as the last lap is finished

Fantastic news, even if Melbourne is a bit of a follow the leader circuit. Its nice to still have a GP in Australia.
