My Hotmail Was Hacked.

Hi all

First, I know this is the rF board. I am posting this here because the people that got an email from my account were folks I raced rF with. Pretty much the only people I have ever emailed from Hotmail have been people I raced with. So to help ensure anyone here I raced with sees this, I figured it would be best to post in this board.

Here is a copy of two emails I sent out last night and today to the folks the 'phony' emails were sent to (some were returned, as I suppose those guys have blocked my addy from their accounts).

Hi all

I just got online (been without the net for quite awhile) only to find someone had hacked my Facebook and Hotmail accounts. Facebook had locked my account and when I logged in it told me someone near Seoul South Korea had tried to access my account. I was asked if it was me or not. It was not and I had to reset my password. I came on hotmail (which was also blocked) and found a lot of emails were sent out from my account. I see there was nothing there except a link. I have a strong feeling it was some sort of virus. I hope and pray none of you guys clicked on it and if you did, I hope it wasn't a virus, just some spam or something. I saw an Announcement on Steam saying they were hacked and user information was compromised. I suppose that might be where the sender of those emials to you guy got my password from. I used the same PW for all my accounts. Dumb of me for that.
Anyway, I wanted to send you guys this note to let you know I had no idea of this until now. I really hope none of you were affected in a negative way.

And toady I sent this one after finding it was likely when Codematers was hack that my user info was compromised.

I found out that the hack likely was at Codemasters. I see I got an email from them in early June. Based on the dates, that is when the emails were sent out to you guys from my hotmail account.
I hope you don't think I had anything to do with those emails. I would never do anything like that. I am sorry they came from my account, but please trust I did not do it, nor did I know anything about it until last night.
While I do take responsibility for using the same password at various sites, I hope you all can forgive me for those emails coming from my addy.

I hope anyone that blocked my addy might see this and know I did not send them those emails back in June. I ask anyone that may have been told by someone that I was sending out spam or a virus to please direct them to this thread.

I first thought it was from the Steam attack where my info was stolen, but after checking closer the date of the Steam attack was much later in the year. When I found the warning email from Codemasters, I am fairly certain that is where it was taken from. The date of the email from them is only a few days different from when the emails to my friends was sent out (early June 2011).

So please forgive me for being so dumb in using the same PW.
