It's so weird, it seems like just yesterday I talked to him. Actually it was last year at the Barret/Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale.

He was a legend, but no reason to be sad. He led a great life, and lived for over 20 years (I think) with a heart transplant!! 20 more years to be thankful and give back to racing.

The only person to win LeMans as a driver, team owner, and manufacturer. He was also one of the longest living heart transplant recipient. He had his heart transplant in 1990.

Truely deserving of the term Legend. He will be missed

That is true, and not long after his heart transplant he drove the pace car in the 1991 indy 500, as the pace car that year was the 1992 Dodge Viper, still in concept form, he became the 1st person to drive the pace car after having a heart transplant. He lived a good, long life.

I live about 20 miles form his ranch in Pittsburg, Tx. and locally he was just one of the guys. He did a piece on a local TV station not long ago and didn't look well. I had the honor of meeting him years ago. A true Gentleman and racing God....RIP

Just read it now (in Italy anything in motorsport which is not related to F1 is never mentioned by the medias.....).

Very very sad about Shelby's death; I considered him the "US version" of Enzo Ferrari.

22yrs is far above the average. Stories like this give me a little more hope.
Interesting that he got a transplant after starting out giving cars heart transplants.

Absolutely agree.

My late step-father once met him in Stuttgart when both were picking up brand-new Porsche 356s. Mr Shelby at the time drove for Aston Martin but disliked the handling of their road cars preferring that of the Porsche instead.
