Default rf2 questions...

Ok guys...

I reckon I`m ready to give rf2 a shot but I`d like some info please.

Like:

What is the latest build number and where`s the best place to download it? I take it this latest build sorts up some (if not all) of the bugs problems I`ve read about with previous builds...

What`s the best payment option? Seems to me the best deal is to get a lifetime version for about £50 odd rather than have to pay a smaller payment and then another small payment every year thereafter...

How easy/difficult is it to install mods and tracks? I`ve come across some that seem to think it`s a real pita to do so I`d like some pointers on this if possible.

What content is available atm? What cars and tracks are in game? I know there`s Old Spa, Old Monico, the 60`s F1/F3? cars but some more info would be nice.

How long after I download will I be behind the wheel of that old F1 car hammering along Old Spa? Is it quite easy to set up once you get going with it?

I`ve read the info and blurb here and will do a little more research too but thought I`d ask those that are into the process a bit for some advice too.

I have more questions but that`ll do for now, I`m sure you guys have been answering this stuff for a while now but I`d really appreciate the help.

Any other relevant info you think I should know then please say...

Cheers.

just gone through it myself - build 85 is the latest.

Logically the US$84 / 50 quid option is the best as it will open up all the options for ever, that's what I went for, but if you have no intention of playing over the net, you can save some cash.

Installing the mods is easy once you have worked out how to get them, which I fell foul of. Once you have worked that bit out, the installation itself is pretty painless. here's where you get them http://isiforums.net/f/showthread.php/1396

there's not too much more than your list, so if you want loads of different stuff, at the moment you'll be a little disappointed. As for how long, well assuming you aren't a dunce like me and take hours and hours to work out where to get the mods, I reckon about an hour after you start the initial download and payment, if you do so by PayPal.

If you add the time to get the updated versions of the Renault 3.5 mod, I suppose two hours, I found that the downloads took between ten and tweny five minutes each, and I've got a 20Mbps line.

However, as all are quick to point out, it is a Beta, and I've had it for about a week and have found a fair number of issues, some minor, others a bit of a pain. I personally don't regret buying it, as I can see the potential, but anyone who steps out of the well developed games into this may be a touch disappointed

Ok thanks les...

I`m downloading the latest build - build 85 so therefor no need for any of the previous builds yes?

I`m also in the process of downloading the 1960`s world class racing but do I need to download all the other cars/mods for it all to work? And what about the tracks? Old Spa, Monaco etc, are they downloaded separately or do they come with the cars etc?

I can`t seem to find anywhere to download just the tracks...

Oh yeh, is it only paypal or moneybookers that can be used or can I just use a credit card?

You can use a credit card as far as I know, but having said that I just went straight for the paypal opyion.

the Renault 3.5 mod has 2 updates, from V1.0 to V1.1, then to V1.2. That gives you three tracks (Estoril, Sepang and one other, can't remember which), then the 60's mod comes with 2 tracks of its own , an older version of monaco and the old Spa.

Go to www.rfactorcentral.com for other mods, but there are not that many as yet. Search here too, I think there have been some posted.

Nice one.

So do I have to get all the updates for the Renault 3.5 mod for eg in order and install them in order les or do I just get the latest update and that`ll give me all the other content?

Think I`ll just try the credit card option as I don`t have a paypal account.

@ tjc

Even if you only want the 60's cars, you need to install everything so you get all the tracks and everything works properly.

Download ALL the ISI content (including "required updates") and put them in a folder. Mine is called "ISI mods". After you install build 85, point the Mod Manager in the launcher to that folder. Right click on each mod one by one and click install. If the mod has an asterix (*) next to it after install, right click and choose update. Keep doing that for each mod until everything is installed and no more asterix.

Welcome aboard

Cool, cheers for the rundown gears...

Everything is downloaded, just waiting for the Renault Megane Trophy download to finish, not long now.

I`ll follow all instuctions but be good if you could check back here soon(ish) (if you can spare the time) just incase I`m stuck in rf2 noobville lol.

Cheers.

One bit of advice:

One everything is installed and you got your wheel and video and audio settings done, load up 1960's formulas, pick an F3 and Spa. Set the weather to "default" (you will get some clouds and light rain) for practice, qualy, and race and set time to about 4pm.

There is NOTHING like this version of Spa. You will feel every bump, crack... it's almost like a laser scanned track. Just fantastic.

NOTE* Practice is closed and inactive by default. You need to activate practice and turn off "closed practice" so you get other cars with you. Qualify is also inactive by default. You need to put a check mark by it to activate.

NOTE#2*

HDR must be turned on in-game or you get "white out". So each time you run the game, open "configure sim" from the launcher and make sure HDR is unchecked. Then turn it on in-game.

NOTE#3*

If you get stutters, go to "configure sim" from the Launcher. Under the sync options, choose GPU.

NOTE#4*

I hope you have a belt motor wheel like Fanatec or Thrustmaster.

The curbs and rumble strips are actual modeled geometry, not canned effects. So the Logitech wheels have issues with this high level of FFB because of their gear system.

If you don't have a Logitech, then everything is fine.

If you do, then you're going to want to stay on track! lol

Let me know if you have a Logitech and I will give you a "fix" for the rattles and shakes

Damn!

Have to nip out for 15 mins (what timing lol)

Would you do me a huge favour gears and give me a quick 1,2,3 as it were on the install process? Might save me hovering around here asking loads of stupid questions...

I`m starting from build 85 and have all the downloads (mods/cars/tracks) I need.

A brief "install this, then that" type of thing would be very much appreciated. If it`s a pita and time consuming no problem, just thought I`d ask.

1. Put ALL the ISI content into a single folder (all the mods including all the updates)

2. Install build 85.

3. Run the launcher.

4. Purchase rF2 and activate from the "Purchase" tab.

5. Once activated, open "Mod Manager" and point it to your folder containing all the ISI content.

6. One by one, right click each mod in the list and choose "install". If there is an asterix next to the mod after install, right click again and choose update. Repeat until everything is installed and updated.

7. From the launcher, run "configure sim" and choose your video settings.

8. Then click single player from the launcher and you're in. Set up your wheel and game settings, pick your racing series, then your car, then your track, then set your race weekend options.

9. Drive with a smile so big you get bugs in your teeth

I'll be around all day to help (I'm 8 hours behind you). I want you to enjoy it as much as I do

NOTE: This is not a "cure". It just brings the rattle/shakes down to an acceptable level

Saved Controller Profile and Controller.ini:
Steering effects strength = 8000
Steering torque filter = 4
Jolt magnitude = 1.00000

In-game:
FFB = 1.0

Profiler:
Overall Effects = 107%
Spring Effect = 0%
Damper Effect = 0%
Center Spring = 0% (box checked)
Degrees of Rotation = 900
Allow Game to Adjust Settings = box checked

Once you've changed the settings in your saved controller profile, you must load it in-game for the changes to take effect.

I just upgraded this week to a Fanatec wheel. I can't even describe how much better it feels. I can go over curbs and off track without fear and full FFB. It's just awesome.

Thanks, will try that - unfortunately will have to wait for a couple of days as the weekend is over for me, this being the UAE, which also means that there is no way to upgrade to a different wheel; they only sell the Logitech ones here

Also can`t thank you enough for this as I`m sure it`ll have me behind the wheel a lot sooner than without it.

Good to know you`ll be around for a while too, hopefully I`ll be posting a screen or two as soon as...

Congrats on the new Fanatec too.

If the rattles are still too much, you can increase Steering torque filter until they are acceptable. Some people go into the 20's. The Devs don't recommend going that high, but what do they know?

There are a few threads over at ISI about the rattles and you can try other people's settings until you find your sweet spot.

Ok...

First snag

I`ve installed the build and run the launcher but when I go to purchase and put in my country as the United Kingdom I just get a message saying:

"Failed to connect to secure server" (or similar)

Tried 3-4 times now...

I just knew there`d be a snag somewhere along the lines...

Hmmm. I've seen threads about that but the only solution is to keep trying. I never had that issue myself.

If it continues, post here:

Or you can PM Gjon. He usually responds pretty quickly on purchase problems.

Ok...

WooHoo!!!

Had to create a paypal account in the end but all sorted up now... been doing loads of laps (well half laps lol ) at Old Spa and a good few at Old Monaco...

Got lots to setup and learn yet but I`m really happy with it so far... feels Great!

Only tried a couple of the old F1`s too so lots to try yet.

Couple of crappy pics just for fun:

But must learn the cams and stuff again. Oh yeh, how do I turn off the windowed mode thing in the replays? You know, the one that tells you the buttons for slow mo etc. In rf1 that could be done in the config file but can`t find it there now...

Many thanks for all the help again gears.

You have to do all cams yourself tj most are not set.

Not sure about a clean replay window I think you only have the window.

Pause offline for that .... or online you sit in pits in your car and swap
between cars / cams.

I don't think it's as simple as just that. See the threads over @ ISI about that. May cause problems when updates are released or activation/re-activation issues.

It`s not a big deal really I suppose it`s just that for some unknown reason I entered my real name instead of the usual "tjc"...

Well I assume you've mapped your controller settings to your liking and saved it with some name like "tjc" or something. Mine is called "911".

So after you've made the changes to that ^ controller profile in notepad, when you're in-game, go to controller settings, click load, then choose your controller profile that you saved.

I also would make the same changes to the default "controller.ini" although I was never sure if that was needed. I just did it anyway.

Mmm...

It seems I`m having a bit of trouble getting logged on to the isi forums... it`s says I`m logged in as... yes, you guessed it... tjc but there`s also a message at the top of the forum saying I`ve not activated my account yet with the confirmation email they have sent me but I`ve not been sent any email... checked just two mins ago and nothing so I can`t participate in the forum and ask silly questions...

I`ve contacted them with the "Contact Us" method twice now but never had any form of reply.

So until I do get activated there you`ll have to put up with my silly questions here I`m afraid

Question:

When watching back a saved replay there`s a list of driver names and other info on the screen that I can`t seem to remove for screens... can anybody tell me how to remove that please?

I`m back lol

Would just like to know which of these Maserati Trofeo mods found here I need to download and I assume it just gets installed like the others?

And where can I get the tracks that are needed?

Still no activation over at isi

I think you can find them all here:

http://isiforums.net/f/forumdisplay.php/77-Locations

Isn't there an option to have them re-send the confirmation?

Not sure about the option for them to re-send the confirmation...

If the mods/tracks are at isi and I`m not "activated" yet then I probably won`t be able to download them.

I guess I`ll just wait and see if I get that email.
