Default Turning Help on Oval Tracks

I'm not sure where I'm supposed to post this, but I'm using the Nextel Cup mod with a few oval tracks, and I have been driving for hours trying to figure out how to turn! The AI turn beautifully, they never have to slow down, they floor it the whole race. Every time I try to copy them I slam into the wall.
I have tried different tires and such and I always hit the wall. On Talladega the corners are so large and the road is wide enough I can turn 90% of the time without problems, but thats the only track. Is this just a problem with GTR2 or is it something I'm doing wrong?

You slam into the wall because the car is not made to be driven wide open on all ovals. Do not try to copy the AI because the AI in the Cup mod is crazy.

So.... how does everyone else turn on the cup mod?

(Also, has anyone modified the cars from the mod a bit to fix this problem?)

Yep, exact same problem here.

Finally I got frustrated and recovered my Nascar Racing 2003 installation.

Great game if you're into Nascar.

At one point PhilH959 had been doing a little bit of work on the nascar cup mod. Don't know if he has continued or not.
