You need to be in a car that will shift h-gate in real life. Stuff like the paddle shift ferraris you HAVE to use the paddles on the wheel. Go get a car like a TVR and you can use H-gate.

Didnt want to clutter up the forum with another thread so..........
Hey guys, I fancied a change the other day so I managed to get my hands on a copy of Test Drive Unlimited on ebay, the only problem is, everything is in Russian! There was no option to change the language during installation and I cant understand a thing in the in-game menus. Is there any way of changing the language to english? From inside or outside the game? Ive had a look through the game folder but I dont understand the file system. Please help, I can't play it at the moment. |

Ok from what Ive found out from the TDU central forum, its a russian language edition that was released specifically for the russian market, so there are no language options. man that sucks.
So, im annoyed with TDU even before I've played it. Maybe not TDU's fault, but who releases a single language edition? I blame eBay. Buying my next game from a store! Think I'll stick with good ol' Simbin and ISI. |

Well, surely Russian requires a different character set, not just different text strings. It may be easier for them to simply release a seperate executable that works with Cyrillic text. I've seen quite a few games that are released seperately in Russian, and of course there are many many US-market games that are a single-language English release, with a five-language following later for Europe.

I've always liked the look of this, but i only want to really practise my road skills. Is it a realistic game ?
Just so i can get used to driving with traffic around me. GTR2 doesn't really offer it

Does TDU have a career mode? Also, how is the sense of speed when driving the faster cars?

Don't forget to try the 'hardcore' mode. It is significantly better, though apparently the solo challenges don't work. My experience with TDU was buying it then immediately downloading a savegame with everything unlocked (I think you have to beat it to unlock the hardcore mode), so I don't even really know what the game proper is about.
It's pretty decent though. It's not going to turn anyone away from our PC sims... think of it like Gran Tourismo mode... but it's better than the default mode. The performance envelope of the cars is about right. You corner at realistic speeds and it requires proper modulation of the breaks and throttle. Where it doesn't quite measure up is in the details like the nuances of tire behavior etc. |

just remember this game is nothing like a sim.... even in hardcore its quite... intresting, it isnt bad but no where near a sim with a little practice drifting is quite easy on hardcore, takes a while to unlock that, there career mode isnt really a career mode, u more just do lots of different races, to unlock hardcore, you have to get the rank of "champion" i think it is, to do this you have to have a total of like 1000 points or somthing along those lines, u get points for everythink from owning 2 cars 5 cars ect, to 5 10 15 races, even driving on all the roads on the island..... this takes a hell of a long time as there is thousands of miles to drive,

How are you finding the career mode so far? I'm a HUGE fan of career modes ![]() Do you start out in a crappy car and have to work your way up? I sure hope so....I love this game mechanic. Only one problem right now though(well, maybe a few)..... 1)I'm terribly addicted to TMUF at the moment 2)I'm just getting ready to start playing GRID for the first time 3)NFS Shift is out in a month

I got 23 cars now or something, lol. Started out with an Audi TT. the rest of the choices are pretty lame. But itt's budget dependent. haha.
One touch I like is that cars that come with the girlie semi-autos only work with the paddle shifter (o a G25 anyweays.) and real transmissions shift through the H gate. Unfortunately cars that DID have a choice like the murcialago and various ferraris have the semi-auto. though I have kinda gotten addicted to the F430 anyways......haha. Bought the Ford GT too as it has a real manual. Lots of classic plus there is a "mega carpack" available for 20 bucks and not a bad deal. And enough variety we can all find stuff we like. And just sometimes driving about is a great time. I have enough cars now that I been driving in real time to races. (Once you are at a location you can "transport" there after.) One race (which yesterday I lost BIG time as I used the Muira against the modern supercars..heehee, still had fun!) is over 100 miles long. A comlpete loop iof the island!! It's not quite a sim as far as car feel, but if you love cars, this is a MUST get!! I find it quite nicely replaces the spot Gran Turismo 2, 3 and 4 had in my heart!! I also understand to though that TDU requires a decent PC to run. I was told it was "buggy" but I haven't had a problem with it myself. (so far) |

yes, i see many posts saying after better GOPUs, it was better. I only have a GTX260 and it runs fine if that helps.
And I got my disc from Amazon.ca so I assume dependent on where one is in the world, if there is one that ships to you, they'd most likely have it. |

I can't play TDU online. I have the megapack but before installing it, online didn't work too. Patched to 1.66A. Anyone know what the heck is wrong?
