I'm on the cup race where it is Elan 26R spec racing. In all the previous races I have been able to take the pole and win the race at semi-pro lvl. Now that I am trying the Elan I cannot get it around the track more than once! The AI guys are braking 75 to 100 feet later than I am and the car won't take a turn unless I'm at 5/10 driving.
Right now I'm thinking Dug Arnao is a crack addict since he had nothing but praise for this car. Any suggestions? |

Setup........setup & smoothness.
There is a great thread a RSC about setting up the Elan. Not worth repeating it all here. Pay special attention to the camber settings and diff settings. |

Try my setup.
1'14.1 @ ShDijon 1'06.7 @ magnat 2'28.9 @ MMM_Bathurst I really like it. Just adjust the gears and possibly brake bias to suit the track and your driving. Good luck mate. |

Thank you for the setup. I'll let you know how it works out for me.
I've tried being smooth One of the biggest issue is the braking. Not only am I pissed at the AI for being able to brake at more than half the distance, I can't get the car to brake in a straight line. I'll be under braking, straight and then the car will shoot off to the right or left for no reason.

Try adjusting the brake balance - also, you can apply a little throttle at the same as the brakes, this usually helps a wayward rear end.
You can try things with the setup (can't promise they will work 'though ). Less rear rebound damping. Consider a little more front spring or front compression damping. On the diff - adding coast side diff lock can tame a wavy tail (on a trailing throttle or braking). |

Well I was able to finish the second race (Zolder) with the fastest lap time of the event 1.58.1 I think. To bad the two spins I had resulted in a seventh place finish. I was a solid 5 seconds out of pole during qualifying.
Fryz' setup helped some, but I'm still having a bitch of a time driving the 26R. |

Well done.........don't worry too much about qualifying, the AI seem to qualify much better than they race. Also, if you go to next session before qualy has completely finished some cars seem to get "given" some amazing qualy "times". Fastest race lap is a good start

Well I just made it through Mondello Intermediate by cheating my ass off. I qualified 10th but was able to jump to second by using the pit exit to leap ahead of the pack. A timely pit maneuver on the pole sitter at the apex of turn one put me in the lead. In what had to be the sloppiest race ever I led from then on.
I think I uncovered a bug with the AI btw. Once I got out in front the rest of the pack quickly fell behind. My best lap was a 1.33.xx and I only strung two 33's together. In all of my previous attempts at Mondello Intermediate the AI was running 1.31.xx. So why did they slow down so much for this race? Last edited by Primaris; 30 July 06 at 05:45. |

I love Small_Fryz's setup, I feel like I can really throw the car around with it.

I just checked the "setups" area in the download section but there are no files there. Am I just missing something? Thanks

I allways adjust the camber to -2,0 on the rear wheels. that usually tames it completely

With my setup try putting the toe to 0.00. If the rear end still contines to wander a lot in the corner, try -0.10 or so.

At RaceSimCentral there's a loooong thread about the Elan, with a lot of tips. Primaris, try searching for it. I'll give you a piece of advice: treat the Elan smoothly and it will reward you generously. Also, to avoid the happy tail behaviour when braking do not lift off throttle completely, ever. Always keep some throttle on, just a little bit. That will do miracles.
The Elan is a difficult car, but if you come to understand it, you will love it above any other in it's class. At least that's what happened to me. |

Thanks for all the input. It turns out the biggest problem I was having was due to controller lag. With a car a lively as the 26R being behind is just asking for trouble! In a different thread you guys helped me realized my inputs were way off. I ended up moving my USB ports to a different mother board header and all is well now.
