Default rFactor $19 CAD at walmart, should i do it

I found rFactor for $19 CAD at a local walmart's "bargain bin". I figured it's a lot cheaper than buying online. I don't know if I should do it or not simply because I wasn't impressed with the demo available. The wheel support for my Driving Force GT is terrible and the graphics aren't the greatest. But it's one the most moddable sim out there.

I've heard rumor about rFactor 2, don't know if it's true or not. But if it's in development I might just wait for rFactor 2 to come out.

By the way, is there any other places that sell rFactor cheaper than this?

Thanks

The demo is horrible, get it, get it! I have all the recent sims, since GTR, and I only play rFactor.

Yes you should...fantastic price. The Indy series rocks. Tracks are good. lots of add-ons and updates. More Open wheel action. you will have to tweek it.. As good as GTR2

rfactor straight out of the box is not worth the purchase... but a number of great mods available make it worth the purchase.

You can tweak rFactor to suit any wheel.
My wheel is 8 yrs old.
Not a problem with RealFeel and LEO.ffb addon.
I feel everything on and off track.

In demo, my wheel felt horrible.
Now, tweaked, its good till it dies and
i run out of excuses not to by a G25.

If you have the CD version, the CD has to be in to play. The download version works without having a CD in the CD-Rom (obviously).

I`d been playing LFS and GTR2 for a couple of years (never used my GTL disc apart from P&G installs due to starforce, until recently). For some reason, I`d never bothered with rFactor, probably due to trying the demo a while back and finding it absolutely horrible.

However, I did decide one night a few months ago just to go ahead and buy it anyway, since I`m always modding games anyway, and figured it was worth a proper look.

I`ve definitely not regretted it. In fact I`ve had more fun racing with rFactor so far than any of the other sims combined.

Go get it

Thanks for the input guys. So regarding the wheel, I just need to put mod / plug-in on it to make it work right? Another thing is that, my computer only has an external DVD-ROM, would I be able to make a image and try to run it with alcohol or daemon tool? Or like download the latest version from rFactor's site and put in the registration code?

Update: I just went and grab it, I also found GTR2 in the bargain bin. Seems like it's a good place to find all the sims

Unfortunately, I've never seen anywhere in the UK selling a disc copy of rFactor. I got mine new on eBay, the 2008 edition.

after playing rfactor with mods, its hard to go back to the other sims..

make sure you do the enb series mod, it adds eye candy to the graphics, makes it look like a new game.

2 1/2 years I've had rF and I still play it a lot. Other sims have come and gone, but I keep coming back to rF because it has everything in mods. EVERYTHING

No don't buy it. It'll ruin your life forever. And the games industry will collapse because you didn't pay for a full price brand new retail copy...

I have rFactor, but I don't play it, I just don't like the UI and a few of the other bits and pieces that differ from GTR 2 and Evo, but I know that economically speaking if you can legally get something cheaper than full retail price and it all works then there is no sane reason not to get it.

Ah dammit I'm in rFactor territory. *makes quick exit back to the GTR Evo/GTR 2 forums.*

for the price its worth trying.. at least you can see what all the rave is about. The Demo really sucks imo.. so its hard to judge it from that.

one caveat- if you race offkine only then don't waste your money. rF is, for all intents and purposes, an online only game.

Huh? I play rF offline more than I do online although I agree that rF is an even better deal if you race online a lot. I can always find a pickup race in something, even if it's a Megane while Evo and even GTR2's server browsers often look like ghost towns by comparison.

I have the driving force gt as well. I do not use real feel, or leos plugin. I find it too much of a hassle. Different mods have different feelings, and effects. I have edited my plr to my liking, and now it feels great without any plugins.

I found an original disc copy in the local Gamestation about a year ago, second-hand but mint, for a fiver. Only one I've ever seen, and due to the price I impulse bought it despite hating the demo. A year later, I own virtually every other gMotor2 game, and despite never touching online still haven't tired of rFactor. The VLN05 mod alone is going to take up weeks of my time just hotlapping the Nurburgring, and that's before I move on to the thousand other tracks...

I started with GTR, then GTR2. A mate joined a league that required rFactor for CTDP 05, and after a while of moaning about how much better GTR2 was (after trying the rFactor demo), I caved in. I have GT Legends, Race 07, Evo + STCC, but they are never used. (until the disc check for the fantastic VLN 2005) rFactor is older than the pyramids, but still #1, thanks to dedicated modders.
