Default Thanks

I'm old. Or at least somedays I feel that way. I was introduced to GTL by accident (I bought GTR2 for my youngest, and GTL came along free with package). But once I saw the cars available in GTL, I was suddenly again a seventeen year-old idiot full of the lust for speed, albeit one that tried to forget how poorly my parent's 1964 Ford Galaxy (no heat, no radio) satisfied that lust.

Still, GTL let me "drive" those cars that drove me, and pretty soon, it took me over.

Fortunately, I now recognize that I can't compete with y'all, or even my own best self, when put to the test of racing in sim world. Human reflexes, such are they are, fade with age, as do so many memories. But I can't describe how absolutely fabulous it is after a long day of being a flak-jacket for clients just to crank up an old Jag or Austin and take an uncomplicated run or two around Nordschleife Tourist. Not racing to win, not driving for time, but just driving. For fun.

Pretty much the same concept I had at seventeen, just with better hardware and no cops.

To those of you that have used your fantastic computer skills to generate these magnificent cars and tracks just so some knucklehead like me can turn a few laps each night and thereby get over the day, I am truly grateful.

That's it.

Thanks.

Welcome, and glad you're enjoying yourself.
As you start learning more, and I'm sure you will,
then perhaps take a look at the Power & Glory Mod for GTR2.

Now that is fun !

Glad to have you aboard. I can relate to being older(55). I've only been a member here for a couple months and this group of guys here are simply the best. Don't worry you'll pick up speed and even if you don't just to drive around all the tracks is a blast. Try 67 Machwerk in Gtr2 for a real treat....

Welcome, and enjoy the site and the game
I agree that driving around tracks just for the sake of driving is a pleasure on its own . Maybe some day you'll feel confident enough to try some competition, and when you do, you may consider getting online and drive around with some other people. Perhaps not for competition (yet), but driving around with others, watching the real good virtual drivers and having a chat is real fun. Check out Gamers Crib for some friendly online racing and leagues.

Hi ho! Welcome

Plenty of "grown ups" here

I was drawn into GTL because of the cars, then I found that the racing was good and the on-line racing was even better.

Don't worry about reflexes - us old guys have cunning on our side

great stuff, i love it when sim racing gets new converts... tho i bet the wives and girlfriends arent at all happy
and tho i dont play GTL, i do have the GTL-GTR2 mod for GTR2 and i love the legends cars myself...dont get me wrong i love some of the modern cars, but theres something about classic cars that does it for me!

and yeah tho i try to be quick and im very competitive in any type of car, i can understand the idea of just having fun and not trying to be the fastest and so on... it makes it more fun and less hard on your nerves!!

you didnt mention if you had a wheel? but if you have the money to get yourself a quality wheel, maybe a G25-then you'll be having the most fun you could have with your clothes on! trust me!

and yeah i'd like to salute the modders and skinners and game developers too... they all do a great job and make this hobby so fun! thanks!

oh one final point, yeah the majority on here are real good people, really helpful and friendly... whether your sim is GTL or GTR2 or whatever... its a pleasure to use this site! damn if that didnt seem like im brown nosing!

GTL is THE game. I completely understand your sentiments. I live in a country completely devoid of interesting cars and it's nice to "drive" the cars I dream of when I buy British Car magazines.

One of y'all must have called my wife, because my beloved bride has just provided me with a MOMO racing wheel as a Valentine's day present. Maybe she was sick of my repeated whining and moping about having to play the greastest driving game ever using a ten+ year-old Microsoft Sidewinder, or maybe she loves me. Who care's? I'm back in the game.

I think there are more old farts here, with flagging reflexes, than you would imagine.

Thats certenly thrue Sunalp,i am 50 but i discovered all these sims a few years ago.It gives me the same sensations when i was a 10 year old kid who was playing scalextric slots with my dad
And i am always into racing cars and motorsport.
I live only 20 minutes drive from racing circuit Zolder, vissit so manny races there, also the historic ones.
Its a plesant suprice that i can race particuly Zolder in a sim like GPL
Happy racingor even just driving.

Holy smokes! Having a wheel and pedals is like learning the game all over! I was up until 3 a.m. last night just trying to dial the MOMO in, and now it looks like all those set-ups I labored so long over are about as useless as slicks on a Yugo. Y'all are right about one thing, however, my poor wife is already rueing the day that she brought this sucker home. Love you baby!

Give me a couple of weeks to get on track again , and if there's to be a Greybeard Derby, I will want a number.

Thanks!

Yup, I agree and getting my G25 over my DFP made me learn again. (Also made rfactor drivable!) and now I set the shifter up RHD and once again am a "new driver"

My, this simstuff is fun!!

Congrats and welcome to the fold!
