Default Custom Championship Editor

Hi Folks!

I own GTL since the release and playing it since 1 week (shame on me ^^)

Now after all is done i wonder that there isn't a custom Championship for GTL to make own CS with all that great tracks!
That is really poor.

I work as programmer and in the next days i will start to do an editor for GTL.
Today i have encrypted the cup-data and i can tell you that in the next two weeks there will be a first version of an cs-editor for GT Legends.

But from time to time i need your help.
Betatesters for the Editor are welcome.
And i need some information from your logfiles etc.
I tell you when the time is come

Hope this project makes all of us happy and can we make this threat sticky please?

regards
Tommy

Excellent.
If possible, while you are figuring out how to integrate this with GTL, there will be a real need in the future for a way to limit the use of add-on cars. For example if you look on-line at races for GTC-76, you see the Gordini is included as one of the allowed cars. I think this because there is no way to exclude the Gordini from any races. Same goes for a single make race, say with Minis, you will notice the Gordini is also allowed on-line.
Off-line you can select just one make from the check box list, but the add-on makes will not have that.... unless you can build that.
This all fits in with what you are doing, since I bet a driving need for a Single-Make Gordini championship is your true motive here.:p

A single-make Gordini championship will complete this game ! LOL. A championship editor is exciting news. Can't wait !

WOW Tommy..!!

Excellent news..!!!...Most Excellent...!!

Gt Legends is one of my all time fav games..
But how to increase the lifespan.??..Hmm..( hehe )..

A Championship Editor, Awesome Idea & lots of guys
will agree on this aspect, since alot of guys really do love
Gt Legends & all the extremely nice addon tracks as well..

A fairly great Championship Editor was infact developed for GTR 2,
but sadly was never finally completed...:
http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=1830

The problematic issues with the CSGTR2 editor was a track limit
of 123 tracks i think & no way to include all the nice cars from
all the great GTR 2 mods as well.
( I fear that the developer has abandoned the project tho..)..

Every racing game deserves such a editor, since the lifespan and
fun-home-modding of the games in question will be boosted alot..

When You have completed the editor, maybe a few - other game -
conversions of the editor could be something You would / could do.??
( Perfect editors still needed for noth GTR 2 & Rfactor as well, i think )..

Now the sim scene only need a very easy to use Track & Car editor..
( cough cough, great idea but alot of work, im sure )..

Do Keep Up Your most excellent work Tommy..!!

Take Care Mate,
Daviking...

Thanks to all for your comments and helps!

First step is done to create a "simple" editor for all GTL fans.

The way it goes:

1. select the tracks to drive in CCS (no limit of tracknumbers)
2. select the car you want to drive and the cars of your opponents (also mods like gordini etc.)
3. save ccs to your desktop (!)
4. doubleclick the saved file and locate (one time) your GTL.exe
5. GTL will start and after the known intro there will be the new CS.

@daviking:

Let me first finish the gtl editor.
After that let us see what we can do for other games.

But i think rFactor do not need editors?
There is a great Championship editor from DanielProgramming, a fantastic Tweaker from Destroy...

Tommy You are quite right about these great Rfactor tools..

However the Championship editor i have for Rfactor is the CDTP one,
but i assume that CDTP infact is Danielprogramming..???

A few ( important ) things not working perfect / working at all in that editor..
As far as I recall it does not work with ( the important ) RFM file output..??
( Reason stated, to avoid online mismatch issues, i think )...

But the fun thing is to mix the cars ( 2-3-4-5 etc..Models / types ),
it cannot handle that without manual editing into the various mod files..
( You can mix the car types You wish, but the output file is not working ok ).

I expect its because of the no RFM file " ability ", since its exactly the RFM
files that need to be manually edited in the original mods for it to work
with mixed type of cars - as end user offline racing intention..

Oddly enough the RFM file is essential for making fully & especially car
flexible fun-home-mods for offline purposes, but this is abit sadly left out.

My conclusion must then be that the CDTP editor is mostly online user based..

Thats why I suggested a conversion of Your upcoming Gtl editor..
( Could make fine " offline " companien to the CDTP " online " editor )..

Anyways, will be looking much forward to Your editor as the project
progress..

Take Care Mate,
Daviking..

Hey daviking - don't distract him

rFactor may not have a perfect editor but you always have the option of notepad. For GTL we don't have that option. An editor for GTL is far more important

What you say??

Hey JJ Vasquez, if you want, I can reply to any message of yours in French, maybe you won't understand anything and so will others as well... If you want to say something in your own language to a mate, tell him via private message.

Before posting a first message, I guess you should have a look at the site rules...

I had thinking about idea to create 60/70 years Endurance Championship and I am happy that you're making this needed editor. I wish you the better result.

Thanks to use your work experience for us.

If this editor could be make us to choose if that round or this round will be wet or dry in using gtr2's rain file...

Take your time, Tommy and do it right. For me, the key to keeping peace at home over the amount of time I spend sim racing is to make sure I also spend time with the wife. She's alot more patient then when I do spend several hours in front of the computer.

I'm going to spend some time with wife now, because once your championship editor is available I expect ro be spending a lot of time with GTL.

Thanks for your efforts.

Can we choose available cars from car's folder name with you championship editor?
With GTL, we can choose available car by model car, not by number. So, when I want to start a race with only one available Corvette from my choice, it's all the Corvette that it be available...

Is it possible to custom the points rules (example: 1 point for best lap, 1 point for pole position, large gradually points like Australian V8Supercars or NASCAR...).

Thanks.

That would be great Skridge as it appears that Tommy has vanished in the haze. I've been happily racing GTL offline and collecting tracks in preparation of setting up custom seasons. So I was really surprised to find that there was neither an in-game way to do this nor a fan created utility. After GPL, ,NR+, F1C, rFactor etc., you simply 'assume' these things exist or can be accomplished with a little file editing. Not so with GTL. It's a blast to drive but sorely needs a way to work all those new tracks into seasons. What was ISI thinking? Good luck with your efforts.

one thought: (correct me if im wrong) the add in cars for gtl & tracks do not have to be encrypted. the game will read plain txt files as well as the encrypted one.

that being the case, a text file written for gtr2 would most likely work, or require a little 'massage' to work with gtl. i am going to start testing tomorrow to see how it all shakes out.

Everyone here as his private life and then his own priorities. For most of us gaming and modding remains just a hobby. It requires time just to make one skin for a standalone car so I can easely imagine how long it can take to make larger mods such as a custom championship editor. I think that Tommy simply has other more important things to do on his side

However, this is is good news to know guys like you keep working on similar projects Your editor will be welcome Skridge. And if in the long run further more are available this will be good too as everyone could choose the one he thinks the best.

I recall - once again! - I'm not a pro nor an expert. As far as I know, GTL and GTR2 files are managed the same way in both games cuz they are kinda 'twin' programs (excuse my French here, lol). At least, I'm sure of that concerning files related to cars. For example, you'll have some file extensions that will change from a game to another like .GTL files in one will be call .GTR files, but both will contain skin files (.DDS) or other model files like .GMT files. I guess it should be similar as well for files like configuration files, and I agree that you would be able to edit them with notepad the way you said. Not 100% sure though but it looks right.

Good luck for your project

While i agree everyone has their private lives etc,i would say it's at least a common courtesy, especially if you've got a lot of people waiting with baited breath for your app,to put aside the one or two minutes it takes to reply to a forum post and let people know it's state of development.

Personally you tend to see this a lot on the net, people coming in saying they're going to write this or that application and a few weeks (or less) into development they suddenly develop a lack of time for it and disappear.

I'm happy to be proven wrong (as that would mean there's a working editor) but certain signs point to this being a hoax,or of someone having bitten off way more than they could chew.

Clearly something must have gone wrong with Tommys project..??

Maybe he will kick inn when we least expect it, with a finished editor..??

However to read the the -always- cool Skridge has -concrete- plans of
making a Combi Championship Editor, most likely ending up in a perfect
state both for GTL / GTR 2 & hopefully for Rfactor as well, is indeed the
best editor news in a long long time...

Big Thumbs up for Skridge & about Tommy I will await further stats..

HOW do you need to modify GTL to put new championship in it? Say, if I have .gdb file from GTR, and I have cars and tracks specified in the game, what does it take to run it?

Hi! (my first post here)

Is there any tool at all (or some way to do it) to limit the number of cars that take part in a race/championship? What happens if I take out some car folders from GTL directory and leave there only the ones I want? Will the game still work with the remaining cars?
Also, where are the championship definition files (maybe encrypted)?
Thanks!

Haven't tried it but others report that if you remove cars the game runs but they won't take part in a championship. For a quick race you can select exactly the types (though not the numbers) of cars you want.

The Championship files are the gdb files in the gamedata folder. They are not only encrypted but you can even remove them and the game works fine. I think various enctrypted files are stored in the prsclb_0#.dyn files in the GTL folder. You can for example replace the tyr files with new files but the originals are still used, and you can use the de-crypted car files for the original cars but edits are ignored.
