Angry I wish I'd known about the Flat Panel Scaling issues & the 8800's

I have a new build with a 8800GTX and I also purchased a Dell 30" monitor. I wasn't aware of the issues with flat panel scaling not working for the 8800's & XP.

Sure, games like GTR2 look great because they support widescreen. But I won't even think of installing F1 Challenge unless I can stop my monitor from scaling. Hell, just browsing the web looks like crap because everrything is stretched!

As I understand it, this has been a problem for over 5 months now and NVIDIA has done nothing. If the next gen ATI cards are any good, I'm selling this friggin' card on Ebay and switching to ATI.

NVIDIA blows!!

Your screen has a resolution of 2560*1600

Isn't it possible to go into the config file (if it's there) in the F1C folder?
And then set your resolution?

And why didn;t you set the resolution at 2560*1600 in windows setup? As far as I know that should be possible, if the 8800 has compatibility with dual link dvi. At least you don;t have to see webpages stretched

2560 x 1600 is great for gaming, but it's too damn small for my eyballs browsing the web and reading text. Yet it's the ONLY resolution that doesn't stretch for web browsing. It shouldn't be that way, and it wouldn't be that way if NVIDIA would put out a driver that allows 8800 owners to turn off scaling. It's inexcusable.

As far as games like F1C that don't support widescreen, I could be wrong but I'm not sure it's as simple as setting your own resolution. It may require a Rasterizer Resolution Hacker tool, like the one for GPL. I'm not sure one exits. In two days searching, I've discovered plenty of angry 8800GTX owners complaining about having to play older games in stretched mode because those games don't have widescreen support.

1280*800 shouldn't stretch too. Every 16:10 reso should work well. Or can't you choose any other 16:10 resolution?
1920*1200
1650*1050 (or something)
1440*900

You're not the only one to complain about this issue, I've heard about the very same problem and no fix yet AFAIK.

Now, this must sound idiot, but have you tryed to press CTRL+"mouse scroll" (rolling the wheel thing on mouse, not sure about correct name) to change the font size in internet pages?
..it might help you with browsing the web and reading text untill the problem is finally fixed.

Set the res in windows to max, and turn up the font size in windows also. That way you get sharp resolution and bigger fonts.

If you need help getting widescreen working with some games go here
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com....php/Main_Page

If you use Firefox just press [ctrl] and [+] to increase the font size, and [ctrl] + [-] to decrese it.

Also don't know about nvidia drivers, but in the Ati drivers there is an option to "use centered timing" meaning if you set a res lower than the monitor can handle it will put a black border around the screen, instead of stretching it. This actually works quite well for a lot of older games. I'm sure the nVidia drive must have something similar.

Good luck.

That's what I'm talking about. It doesn't work. The NVIDIA 8800 drivers are bugged. It's explained in this link
