Stewart's March looks a little unusual here.... As I recall original 701's were very heavy and Tyrrell complained to Mosley about it. March said they would build a (very expensive) lightweight chassis made from titanium that would be delivered before the Dutch Grand Prix. This is that chassis.

It cost Tyrrell a fortune and when it turned up weighed only 10lbs (About 4.5 kilos) less than the standard chassis. Tyrrell was furious and decided to build his own cars from then on.

When somebody suggested to Mosley that Tyrrell was building cars in secret Mosley replied, "No way can he get the components without me knowing about it!"

Imagine his surprise when a Tyrrell Formula 1 car was unveiled later that year! Not a man to forgive and forget, our Mr Mosley.

This the tragic race that cost the life of Piers Courage just 19 days after the shocking death of Bruce McLaren.
