Registration
Do I have to register ?
Registration is now required to download and upload files, and to participate in the forums.
Do I have to pay to register ?
Registration is free to anyone, we just use the system to prevent abuse of the site.
Do I need to register seperately on the main site and the forums?
No, all register links go to the same form, and its the same for the login form, logging in via the form in any part means you wil be logged in for the whole site (main site, photo gallery and forum).
I have registered and am logged in, but I still cant download files or post in the forum?
When you register an email is sent to the address you specified containing a link to activate your account, please check your email and follow the instructions to get everything working.
I have registered and want to change my username, but can't find how to do this?
Its not possible for members to change their username - partly due to the merging of several user systems through the site, and not to mention the confusion that could occur if it was allowed.
I didn't get the welcome/activation email, what can I do?
To request another account activation code you need to follow these 3 steps:
1. Go to: http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/register.php?do=requestemail
2. Enter the email address you used when you registered and click "Email activation codes"
3. When the email arrives in your inbox, just click the link in the email to activate your account.
I still didn't get the welcome/activation email, what else can I do?
If you use hotmail or a similar mail service its possible the mail was put straight into your 'spam' folder, so please check if this has happened to you.
Try registering using a different email address.. sometimes mails just dont get through for various reasons and there isn't much we can do about that.
Please don't contact us because you are not receiving the registration confirmation emails, as any reply we send would fail to reach you for the same reason!
Verified working free email providers - hotmail.com, hotmail.co.uk, yahoo.com, gmail.com - last checked 31 Jan 07
Why has my account been deleted?
When you register an email is sent with a activation link for you to click to complete the registration process - sometimes for various reasons this isn't done
and we end up with stale user accounts that no one can use. The forum sends reminder emails to anyone
who hasn't activated their account, and if after a few days they still have not activated/verified the account it is automatically deleted.
Downloads
Do I have to register to download?
Registration is now required to download the files. Please see this topic in the forums to see why.
Why do I get error messages when trying to download?
To stop people abusing the downloads only registered users are allowed to download. There are several possible error messages:
HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden(You are not authorized to view this page) - the system doesn't recognize that you are logged in. If you are logged in to the site and receive this error, there are 2 reasons this can happen - either you have not activated your account through the verification link that was sent to your email address when you registered, or perhaps because you are trying to use a download manager that isn't supported, in which case use a different download manager or a browser that suports resume - we recommend mozilla firefox or opera, they have built in download managers which support resume function and work correctly with our system.
No file with that id found - either the file was removed, it never existed or the link was copied incorrectly.
Filenames don't match - you probably copied/pasted the link and missed part out.
Why do I get a small corrupt file when trying to download?
Most likely you are using a download manager and there was an error message given instead of the file - try opening the file with notepad or similar text editor and see what it says.
Why can't I download at more than xx kb/s?
Due to a combination of factors, namely the high amount of downloads each day, and the availablity of high speed internet connections, it has become necessary to impose an artificial limit on the download speeds for normal users. Also at peak times its not unknown for the download server to have its connection 'flooded' because of the amount of users downloading at once.
Can I resume downloads?
Yes, it is possible to resume a download if your connection is broken or you need to pause it for some reason. However, not all web browsers support this function, sadly the most popular browser, Internet Explorer does not. We recommend using Mozilla, Firefox or Opera which have been fully tested to work with our downloads system.
Other Questions
Why are some files made by 'unknown' ?
There are 2 reasons for this, either the original author of the file is literally 'unknown' or the person who made the file is not registered on the site yet, and because of the way the database works it was necessary for a special user 'unknown' to be used to facilitate transfering files from the old site to this new site. We have no wish to take credit or take away credit for any third party files made for Rally Trophy, and hope the original authors will register so we may correctly assign those files.
Files I have made are credited to 'Unknown' as the author, how do I get this changed ?
You need to register on the site, and then contact the Admin by email (including your username and the url of the page displaying the file you created) who will then assign those files to your username once they have checked that you are the actual creator of them.
File Uploads/Management
Can anyone Upload files ?
No, you have to be a registered member of the site to upload files, if you are not registered and wish to upload files then please
Register
How do I use the upload system ?
Go to the Submit page(found in the main menu), and click on the link to add a new file. You will be taken to the first of 3 pages used to submit a file.
STEP 1:
Title
The name of the file.. for example 'Ferrari308', 'Sweet Lamb stage' etc.
Author
If you're uploading a file made by someone else put their name here!
Description
Add a description of the file.
Select the Category
Select the best file category for the file you are uploading.
STEP 2:
Version Number
This can be any number you wish but you must fill both fields, example 1.25 or whatever version your file is currently on.
Readme
Here you can put version history, installation instructions, and any other notes you would normally put in a readme.txt file with the download.
Picture x
Use these to upload your screenshots if you wish to show previews of the file on the download page. You may upload up to 6 screenshots for each version of a file. The images should be of a 4:3 width:height ratio, eg 800x600 etc. The server will automagically resize the main image to 640x480 and make thumbnails from the images you upload.
STEP 3:
Select File to Upload
Use the browse button to select the file you wish to upload (maximum size is 100MB), and then press submit, now you have to wait as the file uploads (which could be a while depending on your connection speed), during which time it is important you do not refresh or close the page. Once the file is successfully uploaded you will be taken to the confirmation page.
Other Questions:
Can I upload a file larger than the 100MB limit?
Because of the excessive bandwidth used by large files we can not accept files > 100MB.
The upload of the file failed, what should I do?
First we suggest that you return to the Submit page and use the Add File feature to try again, if this again fails then please contact one of the site Admins who will do their best to help you.
It doesn't forward to me to the next page after pressing the submit button?
Fortunately this doesnt happen often, but if it does, then simply return to the main Submit page and browse to the file in question and use the links there to get to the next page in the upload process ('add version' and 'add file' respectively).
How do I edit files I have submitted ?
Go to the Submit page, and you will see a list of all the files you have uploaded, and for each file a list of the different versions you have uploaded, together with a set of links which allow you to edit submissions.
An explanation of these functions:
Edit Description
Update/edit the title and description of the file you have uploaded, for example to add more information when adding a new version or correct spelling/grammar mistakes, Change the category that the file is in, for example from modified to new cars etc.
Edit version
Allows you to alter the readme and add, replace or remove screenshots.
Add version
Use this to add a new version, if you make a newer better version, you can add the new version number, a new readme file and choose to add new screenshots relevant to this version(note: screenshots uploaded for previous versions will remain and be available when veiwing the older version), submit the page when you have added the details you want, and it will take you to the next page where you select and upload the file itself.
Activate/Deactivate
Allows you to make any particular version available for download or not as you choose.(this option is only available once a complete file submission is in the system).
Add File
Use this feature to upload the file if for any reason the file upload failed during the initial submission.
